We had the good fortune of connecting with Erykah Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erykah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking in my career field is definitely necessary! Working as a professional model in order to cross new barriers and get a certain creative look taking a risk can elevate you. Risk taking has without a doubt helped me with my confidence. I’ve done shoots that I would’ve never done if I didn’t take that creative risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would categorize myself as a fashion model! Granted I am able to model in more areas than just fashion but I mainly model for clothing lines and on special creative projects. The reason I’m at this professional level is because I take my modeling career extremely serious and proper investing. It was definitely not easy getting to where I am today especially being a freelance model not under an agency. I overcame those challenges by continuing to learn, branch out into new avenues and stay consistent. The best lesson I’ve learned along the way is to always take some time for yourself. Don’t allow yourself to become so consumed in it that you lose yourself or your creative energy. Setting boundaries is also highly important in this industry due to the fact that your body, style and personality is what you’re marketing. You don’t want people trying to pressure you into doing things because at the end of the day it’s your face and body being shown. I want the world to know that I’m Self Made! No agency or manager got me to where I am…I DID!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I mainly like to hangout in pretty chill areas and veggie friendly eateries due to the fact that I don’t eat any meat or fish. Places I enjoy eating are Pao Pao Ramen off Druid Hills, Poke Rock in Lawrenceville and Shamrock Jamaican Restaurant in Atlanta. As far as night life or cocktail hour I do enjoy going to Suite Food Lounge, Sivas Hookah, Cirque and Boogalou. If we wants to have a fun night I enjoy bowling at Bowlero Atlantic Station, Andrettie and going skating at Cascade.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to all the dope photographers I’ve worked with along this journey. A special shout out to my mother for helping me start my modeling career 10 years ago. Special shoutout to Huneds The Line for being the first clothing line to hire me as a full time model. Also special shoutout to Gio Elegance Photography for getting me the cover of a magazine. A exciting shoutout to Brooklyn 365 Photography for mentoring me and giving me encouragement.
