Meet Rabia Sheikh | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rabia Sheikh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rabia, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Creativity with my art is not only something that I love doing, but knowing that it also brings a smile to someone else’s face. This is what makes me happy. It’s a win-win.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To me, art is a getaway where I can express myself, forget about all the rigamarole of life, and just be in my happy place.
I am so proud that through art I am able to accomplish goals such as helping others in need by donating my art pieces for fundraising auctions for non profit organizations; bring my client’s visions into reality, and also be recognized for my artistic abilities.
Getting to where I am today was definitely not an easy or straightforward path. In all honesty, my projects with the best results are the ones that either gave me goosebumps before starting them, or the ones that I failed many times before getting them right.
This is one of the unique things about being an artist – you can create your own challenges but overcoming them is also steered by your own creativity.
In my art journey, from making decorative pieces to DIY projects, there are many lessons I’ve learned about myself such as, sometimes you have to go with the flow, you can definitely plan ahead and set goals, but when the time comes, it’s ok to shift gears and make changes according to the situation. I’ve learned to accept different perspectives and ideas of people around me and learned about life in general.
Through my art journey I have solidified my belief that nothing in this world is permanent. Just enjoy the happy moments to the maximum and be patient when things are not working out, as everything is temporary.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely visit the GA Aquarium – it’s the world’s largest aquarium! Coca-cola museum because who doesn’t love taste testing different flavors of drinks from around the world? Go for a hiking trip to the Amicalola falls where you can experience breathtaking views of the Appalachian Mountains. The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta is the best place for some retail therapy. Explore Ponce City Market to get a taste of a variety of cuisines.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The love and support from my husband at every step has definitely been the fuel that keeps me going. Also, my friends who are always supportive and continuously pushing me to do bigger things.
