We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor in my success would have to be my willingness to help people and genuinely be of service, and that applies whether I’m counseling a Buyer or Seller, I’m mentoring a new agent.

The path to homeownership, for most, is not an easy one. It can be tiresome, stressful and at times feel defeating. I know this with every fiber of my being and I have to keep that at the forefront of my mind when I’m working with clients. My clients need to know that the person they’re trusting to guide them through this major life change, sincerely has their best interest at heart. Like I always say, when it comes to the actual business of real estate, there’s truly not much that one agent can do for you that the next one can’t. What matters though, is who do you believe is going to work the hardest to help you achieve your goal? Who do you trust to give you the best quality of service, and who do you trust to stick with you no matter what?

The same goes for mentoring new agents and working with my team. There are a lot of mentors and real estate teams to join, but what I hope to provide is a sense of confidence and total self sufficiency while I share the body of knowledge I’ve gained in my 14 years in the business. I never teach from a standpoint of, my way or no way. The goal is not to create the next Candice. Instead, I work to help people become the absolute best version of themselves that they can be. When I’m teaching, I consider myself to be a hired consultant for that agent. I work for them, not the other way around. So it’s all about what I can do to help them reach their business goals and meet their full potential.

My dream is to help others realize theirs.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been in the business 14 years now and I think what sets me apart from others is this nagging resilience and unwillingness to give up. Without that I don’t think I would have survived the industry this long. This job can be really tough some days. One of the agents on my team always calls it a roller coaster and he’s right. One minute your on a complete high, and the next everything seems to be on fire or falling apart. I’m a naturally empathetic and passionate person and there are times when this job will have you in absolute tears. I’ve learned the hard way that you’ve got to know how to shake off the negative and keep pushing. I’m very proud of who I am today but the road to get there wasn’t easy by far. When you commit to a commission only career or any other form of self-employment, you’re undoubtedly signing up for at least a few nights of ramen noodles and peanut butter sandwiches. The choice to walk away from a steady paycheck was one of the toughest choices I ever made, but I’m so glad I did. The times I had to go without made me work harder, tougher, and even more willing to keep going no matter what.

I stumbled several times along my path but I always got back up, stronger than before and having learned something new. I’ve learned that having a balanced home life and peace of mind make me a better servant to those I work with. Having a strong support system at home has been key to my recent success. Having someone to lean on and to push me when my own fortitude doesn’t seem to be enough. On the same hand, I’ve learned that people are human, so whether they are clients, team mates, friends or family, people will let you down, love them anyway, brush your shoulders off and keep moving. What is meant for you will be for you, and nothing and no one can stand in the way of that. Learning to trust that has helped me stress less, sleep at night, and trust that my business is growing exactly the way it’s meant to.

I hope that when people look back on my life and my story, that they’ll remember a warrior with a hear of gold and an uncompromising spirit. I hope they will see someone who ‘s objective, first and always, is to help.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t get out too much but when I do go out, I love places that combine good food and fun. One of my favorites is Punch Bowl Social! Anywhere that has good food and karaoke and I’m down! Add to that, bowling, arcade games and really great drinks…. awesome night out.

On the weekends, I love going tubing down the Chattahoochee river with friends. It’s 4 hours of peace and serenity. The scenery is gorgeous and it’s a great way to catch up with close friends.

Atlanta Comedy Club brings on some pretty great acts for a very reasonable value so depending on who’s performing, you might catch me there.

There’s this gorgeous Italian restaurant in Suwanee, where I live, called Ippolito’s. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is just oozing with elegance.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Major shout out to my mom, Jeanette King. She is the light of my life, a Real Estate Broker, and the person who trained me to be everything that I am both personally and professionally. Well personally, I am a lot of my father, but professionally, I get all of that from mom. I remember her teaching me how to balance a check book before I was 7 years old. When I was 9 my entrepreneur mom opened a Jamaican restaurant with my grandmother and I worked by their side after school and on the weekends waiting tables until I was 12. At 13 she gave me my first administrative job as a receptionist at a medical supply company she worked for at the time, and one day, in 2007 she called my now grown up self, and said “hey don’t you wanna come help your mom?” Her real estate career was beginning to take off and she wanted me to come be her assistant. I accepted, quickly found my passion, and never looked back.
