We had the good fortune of connecting with Tedrien Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tedrien, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I used to think of risk as a negative; as something to avoid at all costs. It, along with other things, have contributed to anxiety, fear and procrastination I have experienced. In fact, at this very moment I am avoiding procrastination by “taking a risk”! Which is answering this question instead of letting myself feel and get down because I waited so long to do it. It doesn’t seem like a risk but it is when you look at it from the lens of someone breaking out of negative mindsets and habits into the life they’ve always dreamed of but were too afraid to go after. In that mind, the other side of performance is failure, embarrassment…and unfortunately for that negative mindset that fear of failure appears so real there’s almost a tangible death on the other side. It appears to be life or death. And it is. The risk is not only in that one action or opportunity, its the risk of truly living and going after what you want THROUGH the fear. The risk of passing through momentary pain in favor of meaningful living over succumbing the fear of failure and experiencing the pain of regret for a lifetime.

Over the last 10+ years of my life I have taken risks, some calculated and most wildly emotional. Taking risks has been such a taboo topic that instead of ask questions and educate myself of taking proper risks, I dove head first into everything and ended up with nothing. Not fully understanding the importance of an educated risk has led me to a place where I have to now accept that the reason I have not flourished in my life is because of me. My mindset. My belief system about me and my capability. I didn’t throw myself to opportunities that presented themselves over and over, taking the chance to live abundantly because of my low-vibrational belief system. Now I know better and am committing myself to taking more educated risks and squashing fear based procrastination at every step.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative but it doesn’t stop there. Far over creating, I have an immense love for people and improving their lives…even when mine is under construction. I feel the best type of reality tv that can be shown is real reality. Real life. I can influence thousands on IG or some other glossy medium, but why not show the truth as well? I am most proud to build a community of free thinking lovers of life and people. A community unboxed. Where everyone can be who they define themselves as without fear of judgment or closed arms.

It’s not been easy building an online following. I’m truly in the beginning stages and I swear I’ve been here for 10 years. The biggest challenges I have had to and are still overcoming are: not chasing after the people and numbers, but to instead deliver value and everything else will follow, procrastinating, and not staying committed. Those last two have been the hardest because they only strengthen fears of unworthiness. I’ve learned the causes for these challenges thankfully, so I am able to now properly address them for what they are and not avoid them. I’ve also learned I’ve accomplished a lot more than I give myself credit for and that it’s okay to acknowledge and be proud of that.

I want the world to know that it’s okay to be human! It’s okay to make mistakes! It’s okay to not know what the next step is! It’s okay to not be perfect! Nobody is perfect when you remove the glossy filter off their social media. That’s my brand. Transparent. Authentic. Real. And STILL highly valuable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What a fun week!! Monday we’ll start off sleeping HAHA! I like to rest on Mondays, so we’ll meet up for dinner at Gypsy Kitchen. I’ll have the seafood paella and a drink or three. Tuesday is a fun pool day if it’s warm enough! My building has a rooftop pool, so we’re totally lounging with drinks, shrimp and some other snacks. For dinner I think we’ll do The Consulate. I just ate there last week for a birthday dinner and oh my gahhh it was a beautiful experience! Hopefully my friend is coming in to town after my boyfriend and I have gone together lol. I told him I want us to go for a date night.

So Wednesday is probably a shopping day or a “do what you wanna do” kinda day. I am sooo not a “everyday something planned” kinda person! What I do know for sure is that On Thursday we’re having infused birria tacos from an undisclosed location *wink* and margaritas and on Saturday we’re getting on scooters. I LOVE LOVE LOVE riding around the city on electric scooters! I feel like James Bond or something. Wait… maybe I feel like Otto Rocket from Rocket Power. Yeah, that’s it. SO we’ll be riding scooters on the beltline and stopping somewhere we’ve never or maybe have been before for food and drinks. On Sunday we’re waking up early and going to breakfast/brunch at Toast on Lenox…the rest of the day is up for grabs but there are some really cool exhibits to check out in the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Soo many people deserve a shoutout for helping to make me the success I am today and in future endeavors/living. My family, my boyfriend, my close friends, ooh and a few authors who’s books I’ll name: How To Consciously Design Your Ideal Future, The Art of War, The Power of Awareness, 15 Secrets Successful People Know About Time Management, Influencer, and The Four Agreements. Along with positive words of encouragement and more from friends and family, those books have helped to feed me more of the reality I choose for myself: one of infinite wisdom and abundance.

There is absolutely NO WAY I can/will achieve immense success without the community around me.
