Meet Shandra Hailes | Certified Mixologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shandra Hailes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shandra, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Sips & Shots ATL started from my passion for serving others and ensuring a good time. From an early age, I have been inspired by the success of my uncle. Although he is a renowned basketball living legend and NBA Hall of Famer, Walt Frazier has always been a successful and principled business owner. One of my first jobs was working for him. I learned then, that your personal brand is what ensures your success and will take you far.
During one of our frequent family parties (where I have served as the house bartender for many years), my Aunt Mildred Spiller asked me when I was going to share my famous Jell-O shots with the world. I’ve been an accountant for over 25 years, so making Jell-O shots is just my way of helping friends and family feel good; it’s my way of spreading the love. I enjoy it so much that I decided to get certified as a mixologist. I hadn’t considered making it a business until my aunt suggested it.
Aunt Millie pointed out, “Everyone loves your shots, you have the skills and creativity, and you love making them; cause listen, if you’re selling, I’m buying and I know others will too”. So I took her charge and started Sips & Shots ATL. I chose this name because not only do I make Jell-O shots but I also have specialty drinks, and I am a proud native of the great city of Atlanta.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been an accountant for 30 years, spent mostly with UPS (United Parcel Service). A great work ethic with huge integrity has been the hallmark of my professional career. That spirit carries over to my business. I love my customers. Providing great customer service is of utmost importance to me. I get great satisfaction when my customers are happy and well-served. It is also important that I have business integrity, meaning I pay close attention to financial details and business trends. Understanding the desires of my customers and finding creative ways to deliver unique offerings is my trademark.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Friday Night: kick the weekend off with dinner at Hook, Line and Schooner
Saturday Night: Topgolf for some fun, Infinity Lounge vibing with the DJ to end the night
Sunday: Breakfast at Barney’s, Gocha’s Breakfast Bar for Brunch

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people to shout out, it would be impossible to name them all. So, thanks to my family and friends for your endless support. Your encouraging words of wisdom, business advice and prayers are greatly appreciated. I want to send two special shoutouts. My Uncle Walt Frazier gave me my first view into the business world and he was my first example of successful entrepreneurialship. And I want to send a BIG Shout Out to my Aunt Mildred Spiller for putting this idea into the Universe! Look at what you’ve started!!!!
