We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Rego and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barbara, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a creative career because creating has been a passion of mine since I was a freshman in high school. I first fell in love with video and eventually learned how to design. The more hands-on experience I got made me realize that this is something I wanted to do. I’m excited to see what else is in store.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Multimedia Artist who specializes in creative direction, graphic design and video. I have been creating various projects since I was in high school. I studied film at Georgia State University and after graduating I worked full-time as a content creator. In 2017, I started designing collages as a passion project for myself and eventually shared these pieces online. I received positive responses so I decided that was something I wanted to continue to do and collaborate with others on. I spent many hours a week working to find my own style and practice my craft to be better for myself and to stay innovative.
I have had amazing opportunities to work with brands like Sprite, MTV, and PUMA. I have also received the best support from Kacey Musgraves, Killer Mike, and MAX. I hope to continue to collaborate with more great people like them.
One thing I learned during this process is that you have to believe in yourself if you want others to believe in you. Invest the time and money into your craft. Please don’t be afraid to say yes to something just because it seems challenging. It’ll all be worth it when you’re able to do what you love for a living. My hope is that people see my art journey as inspiration to create their own opportunities.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect day in Atlanta to me would be in this order. – Breakfast at Delias – A walk on the beltline – Shopping at Little Five – Jack’s Pizza and Wings (lemon pepper wings …extra crispy) – See a show at the Tabernacle – Grab a few drinks on Edgewood – Waffle House to end the night
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to my family and friends for their constant support. They have been there for me since the beginning of my career and have never once stopped encouraging me to be the best that I can be. I can not thank them enough! Their love means the world to me.
