We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebony, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be remembered as a women who fought to change her life around in didn’t allow my circumstances of my childhood to affect my adult life. That even if you did grow up in foster care you can be someone. you don’t have to allow your life affect you, you can be somebody you can own a business. you can fight through your mental health it’s ok to cry it’s ok to be selfish in put yourself first, try hard to forgive in love and move on. I want people to remember that no matter what I went through in my life I pushed through in kept going with a smile on my face and my head held high.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own an online boutique called she shady boutique how I came up with the name is because I love shades I love, love glasses so I decided that would be the best name to go with. Around the time I started my business my foster mom my mother Ms.Marshall had passed away that July 2018. I was very heartbroken very emotional I never thought that I would have to bury my mom it was tuff for me. so I decided to up in leave Baltimore in I moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in when I got there. I just was going through so many different emotions at that time I just wanted something different I was tired of trying to work for some else who didn’t even care if you live or die they just want you at work. So I was scrolling Instagram one day in I went to this young lady page I forgot her name but she was having a business class at the time. I had the money so I just decided to go ahead in take the class and apart of the taking the business class. they helped set you up with an ein number gave us vendor information helped us with questions we may have had. once’s I enrolled I learned so much I mean I stayed up for 4 days straight no sleep eyes was soo heavy in red lol I was going through all the information trying to decide what I wanted to sell along with my shades and trying to come up with an successful business plan, trying to find the perfect concept for a website. My whole goal was/is to make women in little girls teenagers to feel pretty in beautiful on the inside out like how ms.ronda made me feel because I know how it’s feels to not love yourself or sometimes feel ugly on the inside out. so I just wanted to sell things that would make a young women happy when they put their clothes on or Just something to make them put a smile on their faces, wipe their tears put on some make up grab your accessories throw on your fur Sildes in just simply feel pretty. that’s all I wanted it makes me happy when the women feel so good after they purchase from me it makes my heart smile. Running a business isn’t easy at all you have too have a lot of patience sometimes you deal with rude customers or people who want to rush the shipping process or your vendors might make a mistake in send the wrong items at first it used to get under my skin but I always try to stay as professional as possible in just learned different coping skills to try to adjust take long deep breaths and try to stay calm. I learned that nothing comes easy it’s going to be days where people will support you then it’s other days where you might not get any support at all. I also learned that don’t depend on your family in friends to support you your biggest supporter will be strangers. I learned that the hard way I went a year in business in made only like $500 because I was trying to depend on family to help share in support my business but after I realized that wasn’t working I start doing my research in started paying for promo on social media from different popular people in the city in the love In support started pouring in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
