We had the good fortune of connecting with Viviana Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Viviana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because it’s what describes me as a person. I’m artistic and creative with my craft. It started as a hobby that I enjoyed growing up and soon became something I wanted to take seriously as a career. If it’s something you love, it won’t feel like work and has been making me happy since. Plus, I am my own boss and work within a flexible schedule, working with my time or business hours.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so passionate about what I do! I am a nail artist and that’s what consider myself. Others can refer to me as a nail technician or a manicurist, but i prefer a nail stylist or a nail artist. Simply because that’s what I do, art. In my craft, I enjoy creating beautiful and fun nail sets for my clients that want to make a (fashion) statement. What sets me apart from other nail technicians is that I’m very professional with my business and love to create sets that clients desire to keep them happy and wanting more of me. My nail art speaks for itself and I tend to stay up to date with nail trends and designs. I do have a fun personality that I do show off once I’m comfortable with my clients. When I show out, so does my nail art. I also tend to keep up with my own nails too so clients can see I can also be creative with my own nails. I want to do appreciate the salon and the salon owner, Jasmine Requena, of Jazzy Nail studio located in Decatur GA. She has helped me with my career of 7 years and gained so much experience and creativity as well as my professionalism. Thanks to her, I was able to build my brand, Nailed By Vivi. She has helped me with gaining clientele as well as keeping up with social media to be consistently connected with others and future potential clients. Of course I’ll admit that this career isn’t easy, but it’s worth the ride if it’s what you’re really passionate about! It takes work, dedication, and time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll be honest and say that I really don’t go out as often but when I do, there are a few places I like to go to. I do enjoy going out to eat out at and going to nature parks. A favorite restaurant I enjoy eating is at Agavero Mexican Cantina in Lilburn GA. I love the dishes and drinks as well as the entertainment with the waiters and the music. Another spot i enjoy is a Thai restaurant in Decatur GA known as Top Spice. I love their appetizers and their curry! For lounging or drinking, I would go to Impulse Karaoke Lounge in Norcross GA. I do like a karaoke session along with some margarita pitchers and hookah with friends in a positive environment. When it comes to nature walks I love going to Line Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City, GA. It’s very peaceful and relaxing. I also enjoy going to the Chattahoochee River trails in North Atlanta GA. There are more water activities to do such as fishing and tubing. I especially enjoy river tubing in Helen, GA. I love the little town and the people there. Other attractions in Midtown Atlanta that I also enjoy are the Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola Factory, Regal Movies at Atlantic Station, and the Centennial Olympic Park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As you know, we all start from the bottom. For me, it all started as a self taught nail artist. Growing up, I’ve enjoyed anything with art and creativity. When I realized I needed more education on my craft, I signed up for beauty school to achieve my goal into working in the field. All though I honestly feel that school only instructs you with the basics, I do want to give a shout out to my mentor, my colleague, and my friend Jasmine Requena. She was one of the first person that took me seriously as a nail artist to work for her in her nail salon. Jasmine has been a professional nail artist for almost 20 years. Although I was fresh out of school, she hired me back in 2015 and helped me improve my craft to become a better and as professional as she was. I started to work under her on commission until I was fully ready to become my own boss and work under booth rental. I was so nervous but jasmine knew it was a push I needed to get out of my comfort zone and become what I am today. Jasmine not only gained an employee but also a friend. When I always need help with advice and tips, she’s always there no matter what. Jasmine also pushed me to improve my skills and I greatly appreciate her for everything I’ve accomplished in my career so far because of her.
