Meet Joy Douglass | Hairstylist/MUA/Talk Show Host/Motivational Speaker/Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Douglass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was initially to supplement my income because my family was in lack. Gifts of Joy was established in 1999 during a time of lack and insecurities in my life. I was expecting my second child at 20 years old and I was struggling financially, I believe God gave me the business name to pull out the gifts that was in me to begin to create wealth for my children.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Gifts of Joy LLC was created at a time of lack in my life, however it has grown into a multifaceted company that displays many of my gifts and talents such as being a licensed master cosmetologist, makeup artist, talk show host, motivational speaker and plus size model. What sets me apart is my humble beginnings and using my gifts to first glorify God. I can’t take credit for where I am without giving God glory, I put my clients needs first by being punctual and attentive to their needs.
I got to where I am by making many sacrifices, prayer, hard work and seeking wisdom from those that know more than me.
No it was not easy by any means. There have been times I haven’t made any money but I continued to press on. I was determined that God had a plan for me to be successful in my own way. I wasn’t seeking success to look like others.
I overcame the challenges by never giving up and taking many risk after much prayer.
There are so many lessons I’ve learned along the way however what I’ve learned and valued the most is that what’s for Joy is just for Joy and know one could take that away from me.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand that if you continue to have faith in God anything is possible. During my journey I have struggled financially, emotionally, mentally, physically and even spiritually but I never gave up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Is my best friend was visiting I would take her to St.James Live in Camp Creek. I love the vibe. There is great music, food and drinks. Also I would take her to visit some historical sites in the Atlanta area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my success to God and my mother
