We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyra Evette Bodrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyra Evette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
“Have faith and go for it!” Was my initial thought behind starting Highfalutin Consulting… followed by thoughts of a million and one things that could go wrong. As a kid, I remember having a make-believe loan company in my grandparents’ living room and constantly harass family members to apply for a loan. Fast forward to now… I still have the same energy, just a different passion.

Making an impact on someone’s business and life is all I’ve ever wanted to do I just needed to figure out how what and when. Every role that I’ve had since launching my career has been focused on brand management with an emphasis on connecting and improving the experience of multicultural clients. I absolutely LOVED working in that space and knew that my business had to reflect that in some capacity.

I began fleshing out what I wanted my business to be, the impact I was hoping to make, and created a strategy that would allow me to pursue entrepreneurship. From business conception to now.. I rely heavily on my family and friends for encouragement on the days I want to quit and close up shop. Also, having faith and manifesting what I want for my business played a major role in my thought process.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business Highfalutin Consulting is a boutique brand design and strategy firm that focuses on connecting businesses and organizations to the multicultural community. For the record, that was not my initial vision. After I became a certified etiquette and image consultant, I put my skills to good use and launched Highfalutin Etiquette and Image Services in 2018.

My goal was to help young professionals and children learn how to present their best selves at all times. While building Highfalutin, I continued to work my corporate job in diversity, inclusion and brand management. In those roles I acquired the skills needed to create brand designs, website and strategy to attract concentrated demographics. The more I continued to develop the etiquette side of Highfalutin, the more I witnessed the need for etiquette and image consulting for organizations.

I noticed that there was an opportunity to revamp the aesthetics and mannerisms of businesses that were focused on appealing to multicultural consumers. The process of building my portfolio of clients was not easy… but I had to remember my why. Being a black woman from a small town in Charleston County, South Carolina (shoutout to Ravenel, SC)… makes me extremely passionate about how we are represented and reflected in business.

The sole mission of Highfalutin Consulting is to make sure the connection between the culturally diverse population and businesses is authentic and respectful. Today, I can proudly say that Highfalutin Consulting offers businesses and nonprofits attractive brand designs, marketing strategy and professional etiquette that appeal to the multicultural community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh… I have so many places that it is hard to narrow down but here goes.. When my besties are in town we will definitely visit The Battery, The Shops of Buckhead, Seasons 52 and Jr Crickets.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my Shoutout to God, my mom Deneice and my fiancé Miles. My mom has always encouraged me to be different and confident in all that I do. She probably prayed for me and my vision for Highfalutin Consulting, just as much as I have. My fiancé Miles gets to hear all of the fears, doubts and struggles that I don’t show to the world. He is always so patient and reassuring while still encouraging me to chase after my dreams.
