We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Eywa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Pittsburgh, Pa. I grew up in the Hill District and relocated to South Oakland when I was about 6 or 7 years old. When I look back at my life growing up I became very grateful for the experiences I had on my journey. I realized that in order to be better and to not only be successful but to live a more whole and happy life, I have to change and heal my negative thoughts, feelings and actions I assimilated over time. Healing myself of these imbalances, and wanting to be a positive influence to the youth faced with the same dilemma , I have grown more into love and compassion for community and family building. Knowing that there are young and elder people that are growing and living within cycles of trauma, urges me to be better and look closer to the wise for guidance, and learn to reflect that wisdom and uplift the youth and god willing generations to come to.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say that I am a work in progress and my art is a reflection of that as well. What sets me apart from others is that I am unique in my own way but also connected and a reflection of those around me. I am most proud of da project I am developing called “#LionessNDaFlesh”, the skillset I am gaining and the business relationships I am building are beyond anything I could have ever imagined growing up. I got to where I am now by observing myself and my surroundings and asking myself how can I be of service to not only my community but how can I impact people on a global scale? What can I bring to the table? And then everything started to come to me. It wasn’t easy and it still isn’t, but I overcome challenges by looking at my surroundings and the support I have and tell myself ” never give up, keep striving to be better and do better everyday no matter how many times you fall, get back up and keep going.” I also hear the voices of my guides, brethren and sistars’ advice and I instantly pick up my energy and snap back. I am learning to over come my fears, to be myself, mind my business stay in my lane, word to (Mama Kadiatou), speak up and be confident in my self and don’t worry about what others think about me. I also learned that everything I do effects the people around me so I try to be mindful of that in my day to day dealings. I want the world to know that as a moorish woman, I am here to uplift fallen humanity and plan to serve our communities by cultivating healing through indigenous cultural arts such as music, dance, spoken word , drawing/painting, and promoting wholistic health and wellness, etc. I plan to inspire and teach women, men, and children to value themselves and nature, returning to the roots of where sacred knowledge and teachings descended from so that we may live free and in harmony with the divine, and put everything we learn in the format of a story that will lead to an artistic production. #LionessNDaFlesh is an artistic and community building project curated by artistic creator Diana Eywa that focuses on Uplifting Fallen Humanity. #LionessNDaFlesh aims to establish a help me help you help us partnership with Non-Profit and for profit organizations whose focus is to bring communities of diverse cultures together through the arts and wellness initiatives. Within this help me help you help us partnership, organizations will help da #LionessNDaFlesh P.R.I.D.E ( People Recreating Intellectual diversity Everywhere) members gain the skills needed to help organizations reach their desired goal as well as use the skills to develop their known creativity and skills set.

I want to give a special shout out to Teireik Williams ( Trap Panther Party) for being one of my first mentors opening my eyes and helping me to find my purpose. I want to give thanks to Syreeta Gordon ( Kangaroo Birthing), Kent Bey ( Project Love Coalition), Mama Kadiatou- Conte Forte ( Balafon West African Dance Ensemble), Level Up Studios, Wadjet Mentuhotep El ( Engineering Impact Initiative ) , Legacy Arts Project, Truth Walker ( Ourvoices.online ) Diarra Imani ( Drop Out Kidz), Desa Kishar El, Jionna Rogers, Birthright International, helppeoplenow.com and the list goes on.
