We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When it came time for me to start by business I was directly inspired by my parents, who were both educators and entrepreneurs. From childhood I was taught the importance of ownership, not just for the sake of ‘self’ but to create opportunity for my people. Krejoda is a one stop shop for design, creativity, and fashion. Krejoda’s original founder is Nerissa Jackson, my mother. Krejoda was an idea birthed from my mom as a gift to her children (Krystal, Earnest, Jonathan, Jazz, and David). My mom had dreamt up and talked about creating this business for years, but was unable to see her vision come to life after losing her battle to Breast Cancer in January 2015. I saw rebirthing (and remixing) Krejoda as an opportunity to rededicate Krejoda as a gift to my mother. Krejoda originally had a focus in fashion, but now we offer personal styling, interior design, creative directing, and photography services.

Krejoda is an extension of Nerissa’s legacy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Along with being an entrepreneur, I am a singer and songwriter. I spent several years doing background vocals for different artists. I spent a while touring, and recording on other peoples records and then decided to make my own music back in 2019. I released two singles in 2020, ‘Natural High’ and ‘Dynasty’ and was pleasantly surprised by the support and feedback that I received. It’s a challenging industry to navigate because it’s very easy to ride the wave of comparison, but I had to sit with myself and remember that I have something to offer the world that no one else does.. and that is, my sound. I’ve always been very comfortable being in the background and helping, because I felt like being at the forefront or in the spotlight required too much responsibility and pressure. And well, it is pretty true, being in the forefront definitely comes with it’s requirements BUT I am equipped.

Along the way I’ve learned the importance of loving, trusting, and choosing myself. It directly impacts every facet of life, including my professional life. It hasn’t been easy, but I have no regrets when it comes to trusting my gut when it comes to my creativity and creative expression. I hope the world will see love and sincerity when they see me and things birthed from me,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a South Florida native, I enjoy the beauty and artistry of Miami. When I have friends or family in town to visit, a drive down to Miami is always on the itinerary. I enjoy good food, some of my favorite spots are Honey Uninhibited for brunch, House of Mac for lunch, and BarOne for dinner. Wynwood is the art district of Miami which I thoroughly enjoy as well, It is full of great spots for photo ops, bars, and lounges with great drinks and great music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely have to dedicate my business to my mother, her vision is the foundation of my business. Also, in the journey of bringing my business to life my loved ones supported me every step of the way through with constant support and affirmation.
