Meet De’Arcus Curry | Professional TouringDrummer ,Producer, Song Writer & Music Arranger

We had the good fortune of connecting with De’Arcus Curry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi De’Arcus, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Music was a major part of my family however I wanted my own identity . I went to college for basketball. While I was there, I received an email for my first real drumming opportunity. It was a job that had nothing to do with sports lol .So, I ended up taking leap of faith.I was 20 years old and this would be the first time I had to play drums on a professional stage. I didn’t know it would change my life for the better. Once I saw that this drumming gift was bigger than me, I knew I had to pursue it. For me, the art choose me . I was good at a lot of things but its something about when art speaks to you. Then you begin to understand your purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Sometimes as creators, we can get caught up in whats around us .The key is to stay focus on what you’ve started & to keep going .There are times you should step back and see all the work you put in, that will motivate you to continue .
So far this journey has taught to never give up, no matter what isn’t going your way. Just know that God has a good plan for your life. I want the world to know that my gifts aren’t for me . Its about serving others. And although I didn’t go to school for music ,somehow I ended up playing drums professionally for 11 years now. Be inspired by whats not there and everything you want will come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends and I typically go to all the Atlanta restaurant with the best cuisines. We love to eat LOl. Spice House & Barneys are two great restaurants for brunch . From Jam sessions to a quiet jazz set ,to sit downs at the park , we do it all LOL . There are some many places to hang but we tend to pick whatever’s exciting at the same time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to thank God for showing me my purpose. I would like to thank my parents & brothers who introduced me to music. I dedicate this to them.
