To preserver or to pivot is a question that do-ers have been asking themselves since the beginning of time. It’s never a straight road when you are doing something new, blazing a trail, breaking a ceiling, or pushing boundaries, so it’s only natural to wonder whether to give up midway. My answer would be to always keep going! It’s important when you run into obstacles in your business that you always seek new information that will allow you to work smarter and not harder. The more you know the more you can accomplish. Whether to keep going or give up is a question that can be asked in many aspects of life. In the context of entrepreneurship, I see it as to whether you are internally inspired or motivated by an outward source. Inspiration and Motivation are sometimes used interchangeably but to keep it short inspiration is often times that natural calling from within. Inspiration often leads to longevity and if this natural calling does not exist you will often find reasons to give up. If your cause is worthy you will find reasons and the means to keep going. Your natural inclination will be the determining factor whether you proceed or quit. Read more>>

It can be hard to tell whether the energy you’re putting in to something is successful. I firmly believe that when things start to get hard, that’s when you are being tried and that’s when persistence is so important. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Failure is key to success, you can’t give up with every failure because failure is your teacher. She teaches you what works and what doesn’t so the next time you try you have more knowledge than the first time you tried. I have had artworks in the past that I had to completely start over on and when you hold up and compare the two pieces, you can see the mistakes that were made the first go around and you can see how I problem solved to fix these mistakes. To be honest, you don’t really know. I say that because I’ve given up plenty of times only for it to fall in my lap again and again. Emotions will trick you like that, but if you’re passionate about something, I don’t think that passion will just let you give up and get away with it. That passion will recreate itself to give you a reason to pick back up and do it again. I hope that makes sense. Read more>>

Listen to your heart. Yes, I just said that. Yes, it is cliche. Also, yes, it is correct. When I used to hear this statement, it was always in the context of some frilly Disney movie where the characters were animated, and the stories scripted. They were following their dreams, falling into a rut, and right when they gave up hope; some miraculous thing would happen as a sign to keep going. Well, I haven’t quite had an experience likes so. However, what I have experienced is excitement to create something that not only would I be proud of, but knew that it could directly impact others and help them feel that feeling as well. How do I know whether to keep going or to give up? Giving up is never an option. Period. Giving up would be the equivalent to quitting or failing and since I was a little girl, failure was not in my vocabulary. One of the biggest factors in going hard and not giving up are my children. I have two children and I am a single mother. To quit would be to sentence them to death. Not literally, but figuratively. What kind of hope could I give them if they watch me accept failure? Determined to lead by example and push through no matter how hard it is, I want to instill positive character in my children as well as to teach them to be just as ambitious and resilient in chasing their dreams or achieving their goals. Well, there’s a difference between satisfaction and stagnation, comfort and complacency. I think that in order to know when to keep going or when to give up, you have to be tuned into your divine purpose. It’s important to get in touch and stay in touch with your “God voice” or whatever you want to call it. You have to be willing to ask the questions, be open and willing to listen to the answers and take heed once you hear them. This takes so much courage! Recently, I was forced to change my career. A career that I enjoyed for 20 years! Did I want to keep going? Of course! But it was no longer good for me, good to me and I was no longer able to do my “life work.” I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Read more>>

I believe the answer to that question lies at the top of the mountain. From where I’m standing, I can say my journey has been amazing. This joy would be completely foreign to me if I gave up at the foot of the mountain. I chose to see for myself, instead of being satisfied with stories from other travelers. I’m happy that I’ve endured all that I have so far. As I look behind me, the view here is pretty nice to be honest with you. That alone keeps me going and excited that once I do reach the top it’ll all be worth the journey. I’ve walked through rain, snow, the scorching heat, lost some luggage along the way but most importantly, I’ve gained new perspective. Read more>>
