To persevere or to pivot is a question that do-ers have been asking themselves since the beginning of time. It’s never a straight road when you are doing something new, blazing a trail, breaking a ceiling, or pushing boundaries, so it’s only natural to wonder whether to give up midway. In 2017 my sister was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called ChondroSarcoma – a category of tumors of bone and soft tissue. A very rare form at times not curable by radiation. My sister and I share an 8 year age gap, but our bond is magnetic. I found out about this diagnosis right before Christmas in 2017. I lost my job due to a fire in the building & the news of my sister followed right after, devastated to say the least. To me, this question is quite simple. There is no such thing as giving up! Yes, things get tough, life happens (especially with the year we have had), there will always be highs and lows but those things make what I do worth fighting for! I believe in self-care and taking time to recuperate but laying down or throwing in the towel is NOT an option. Every person wants to meet their goals in life. There are times when self doubt creeps into out mind and we think are goals are not achievable. We must get to a point in life that giving up is a choice rather than an option. Some people look at the glass half full and others look at the glass half empty BUT the glass is ALWAYS refillable. Life is a challenge. People, places, and things can hit us hard, remember to keep you feet moving. It’s the yards after contact that will help you reach the finish line.
