We had the good fortune of connecting with Zacarria Burks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zacarria, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I don’t think I chose a creative career, I like to think this career chose me. Originally starting off in the hair and makeup portion of the beauty industry, nails kind of just fell into my lap. Nails has always been something that I wanted do since i could remember. I never even knew I could get so creative until I started doing nails. My creative career has challenged me in so many ways for the better. Nails is just my career, it is my passion, my peace, and my happiness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I can remember I’ve always had a passion for beautifying others. One of the reasons I enjoy my career is because I’m able to help others feel beautiful. Finding the passion for nails really makes it so much more exciting to share. My career challenges me to express myself through art. One of many many great things about my career is that for me it is therapeutic. When I’m doing anything involving nails whether if I’m teaching, talking to someone about nails, or even actually doing nails i am at peace.  Because nails are always evolving, It is super super important to always make you are open and willing to learn. What it means to be a nail technician is to love what you do, to always have respect for yourself and your business, and to always evolve. What’s sets me apart from others is my genuine love and care I have for my work. I put my all into each service I do, and I always try to give the best experience. What I am most proud about is opening my new nail salon, My second one this year. I also enrolled In school to receive my Nail Instructor License which makes me super happy because I love to teach. I guess growing up playing “school” really got me going.  I got to where I am today not only because I am a genuine person who wants to see everyone around me win, but also because my of my hard work and my strong ambition to be the best , and become successful. Easy? Not even close. Becoming a business owner has been prolly the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but also the best because I found something I love to do. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far is that, no matter how tuff it gets, never give up. Believe me it sounds good to say but to ACTUALLY LEARN, Is the true lesson. What I want the world to know about me, my brand, and my story is that this is only the beginning. I am only 22 years old and I have so much I want to do with my business, so many goals I want to accomplish, so many ideas that can transform the nail industry and make it even better, and evolve. I want the world to know about “Nail’d By Carria”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Generally speaking, I would take her/him to a place that has good music, good food , and fun. I love food and music so it would be a must!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves the upmost recognition when it comes to my business. Without them, and my boyfriend. I don’t know what I would do. Although I put in a lot of hard work, I have such a strong group of intelligent, loving and caring individuals in my corner, I couldn’t be more blessed.
