We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Gilliard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, is there something you believe many others might not?
I don’t believe that you should just do what you want to do. I believe that you should do what you are meant to do. This perspective deviates significantly from the conventional belief that passion and desire should be the primary drivers of our actions. While following one’s passions can be fulfilling, it might not always lead to a meaningful or impactful life.
From my viewpoint, there’s a deeper purpose that each of us is uniquely designed to fulfill. This belief stems from the notion that our inherent talents and experiences shape our destiny, guiding us toward roles and endeavors that not only satisfy us personally but also serve a greater good. By focusing on what we are meant to do, we align our actions with our core strengths and values, fostering a sense of purpose, direction, and satisfaction that surpasses fleeting desires.
In essence, following what we are meant to do challenges us to listen to our inner calling and recognize the responsibilities and contributions we are best suited to provide. It promotes a life of intentionality, resilience, and profound impact, positioning us to make meaningful differences in the world. Thus, my belief is that while desires can guide us, it is our duty to heed the deeper callings of our existence.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career journey has been a tapestry of perseverance, divine guidance, and relentless determination. One aspect that sets me apart from others is my unwavering commitment to moving forward, no matter the obstacles. While many might find motivation in personal ambition or external validation, I have drawn strength from the profound faith in God’s mercy. This faith is not just a passive belief but a driving force that propels me to persist, even when faced with daunting challenges.
Reflecting on my accomplishments over the past few years, I am continuously humbled by the progress I’ve made. Achieving significant milestones in a relatively short period is not solely a testament to my efforts but to the divine grace that has blessed my journey. The path was far from easy; it was laden with hurdles and moments of doubt. However, each challenge was a lesson in resilience, teaching me to lean on my faith and trust in the greater plan.
One of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is the power of perseverance and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook. Challenges are inevitable, but they are also opportunities for growth and self-discovery. By facing them head-on and not shying away from the discomfort they bring, I have cultivated a strong sense of determination and resilience.
What I want the world to know about my story is that it’s one of faith, grace, and unwavering determination. My brand is built on these principles, celebrating not just the successes but the journey and the growth that comes with it. I hope to inspire others to trust in their path, have faith in their abilities, and always remember that with God’s grace, anything is possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start the day with a delightful breakfast at Another Toasted Yolk, where the charming and industrious Sandesh Pardeshi ensures every meal is a culinary masterpiece. From here, a leisurely stroll through the town is in order. First stop: Harkleroad Diamonds. This gem of an establishment, led by the visionary Caleb Harkleroad, dazzles with its exquisite collection and unique charm.
The journey continues with introductions to some of the city’s most fascinating influencers. Meet Kaushal Patel and Falgun Patel, whose dynamic presence makes the town thrive. Their stories and contributions will leave a lasting impression, showcasing the very essence of community spirit.
As the sun sets, it’s time to indulge in the culinary creations that define the local dining scene. End your evenings at the finest restaurants, each owned by remarkable individuals. Dine at venues run by the likes of Pranav Patel, D.K. Patel, and Maebelle Alolong, where each dish tells a story of passion and excellence.
This magical week is more than just sightseeing; it’s about connecting with the soul of the city through its people. These are not just places—they are the hearts and minds that make the city a truly wonderful place to live and visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many people know about my foster parents and how they have been a beacon of hope for me to be where I am today. However, not many know about the specific individuals who have played crucial roles in my journey.
Firstly, I want to highlight Esther Sherrard. When I was 18 years old, Esther became my foster parent and provided a stable and nurturing home environment just when I needed it most. Her unwavering support and guidance allowed me to transition smoothly into adulthood. She showed me who Jesus is. I became a Christian because of her love.
Then, there’s Ebony Harris, a pivotal figure in my life who taught me the skills to build Gilliard and Company. Ebony’s mentorship was transformative, equipping me with the knowledge and confidence to embark on this venture.
I also owe a great deal of gratitude to Sandy Millazo, my case manager, who went above and beyond to help me find my forever family. Sandy’s dedication and perseverance ensured that I could finally find a place to call home.
Cathy Lynch, my group home director, deserves special recognition as well. Cathy stood by me through thick and thin, making sure I always had a place to stay and never allowing me to feel abandoned. Despite my many outbursts as a youth, she never issued a release for me from her group home. A discharge from the group home she managed would have significantly changed the course of my entire life… for the worse.
Lastly, Perry Garson, my Guardian Ad Litem, fought tirelessly for my well-being and never once left my side. Perry’s persistence and advocacy provided me with the stability and security that I desperately needed during challenging times. I am forever grateful for his unwavering support and belief in me. Perry was there for me from childhood unto adulthood. He always took in what I said, never backed away from the truth and reality of my predicaments- yet always made sure that I had a peace of mind that my voice was heard.
To all of these incredible individuals, I dedicate my shoutout. Their presence in my life has shaped me into the person I am today, and their impact will continue to be felt for years to come.
These incredible individuals have all been instrumental in my journey, and I am eternally grateful for their influence and support.
