We had the good fortune of connecting with Vick M. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started The Ignite Dev Lab, I wanted to find a way to quit my engineering day job but that vision has since evolved into wanting to help my community and ensure that financial literacy was being taught to those that need it most. The fastest way to financial freedom is through entrepreneurship.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Ignite Dev Lab is a SBA certified- small biz development company, where we mentor and support aspiring entrepreneurs from underserved & disadvantaged communities to help them bring their ideas to life. We provide resources to get registered with your respective state office, business plan support and assist with gaining access to funding for your business.

One thing that I am most excited for is the launch of the business tailgate series at ATL Falcons games this fall. Each tailgate will provide a unique experience to meet other small business owners to help build that sense of community but also provide resources to get your business going such as creating a business plan, building your brand, social media marketing and financial planning. I’m very excited about the future!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best thing about being in Atlanta is you access to a little bit of everything – Marcus Bar & Grille is one of my favorite restaurants right now. It’s a black owned spot that has great food and drinks. Depending on the time of year, I would definitely have them catch an ATL United match, it’s a very fun night! I also recommend first Fridays at the High Museum!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people I want to shoutout but I have to start with my fiancé, Eri, who is always encouraging me to go after whatever ideas I have & for always helping me keep centered . Then I have my team – Alicia, Demarc, Jodee, Corey, Jas and Keenan – some of the best and brightest in the game & I am grateful to have them on my team!
