We had the good fortune of connecting with Tristen Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tristen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was a broke college student. I already knew how to hustle so I used the gift God gave me to bring in profit. At the time I just knew, “I need to make this money by tomorrow.” Being a Hair Stylist brought quick money… I learned that on my journey.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Inspired by the Black Community, especially the hood. My prices are low so that the unfortunate people have good stylists too. It’s common in Atlanta for services to be overpriced based on popularity along with skill level. My goal is to provide for my community. The challenges to sustain this business included setbacks, moments where I wanted to go out of business, and times where I had to do hair for free just to make content for my social media. In this business you’re not only a stylist, but a marketer, business owner, and content creator at the same time! My brand is Rich Girl 777 Hair where ANYONE can enjoy a rich salon experience. My brand name is inspired by my last name, Richardson. I am proud to be Rich Girl 777.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My first spot to take a friend would be Southern Fire Kitchen. If my friends visit Atlanta, GA, they would be in the mood for some good soul food. This place is fire! I LOVE their catfish. Another place is black owned as well, REEL STEEL BAR AND GRILL located on Wesley Chapel in Decatur, GA. This place is a vibe! The food is always good and the drinks are delicious. They have hookah too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have peers in the industry that I look up to and even inspire. My clients believed in me from the beginning when I was only doing hair from the kitchen table. That’s real.
