We had the good fortune of connecting with Travie Rozae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Travie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Being persistent and having great energy would be two habits I can definitely say created life-changing opportunities for myself which put me in positions to win. I love that no matter what cards I’m dealt, I’m always able to find a way to make it work or get things done. With what I do, people depend on me to bring their ideas to life regardless of the obstacles they may not even be aware of, so persistence is definitely what separates the winners from the losers in my book. Having good energy goes without saying – people gravitate to what makes them feel good. I’m able to secure long-term clients, new customers and life-long friends not only because of my talent and work ethic but because of the energy I put out into the universe.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s honestly really hard for me to pick just ONE word that describes EXACTLY what I do. Anyone that knows me, knows that I just get it done! Whether that means I need to be the photographer, wardrobe stylist, creative director or model. I think that’s what sets me apart from others – the fact that I can do all of those things and do them WELL. I was a stylist before I even knew what the word meant – dressing my friends for our drunk nights out. I was a photographer before I even got a real camera – taking everyone’s Instagram flicks on the iPhone. I was modeling way before I was aware people would ever pay me for that kind of stuff – shooting every weekend with my friends just for fun. I can go on and on but my point is, PRACTICE, whether consciously or subconsciously is what got me to where I am today. It shaped the habits that make what I do look effortless and easy. The journey to get there however, is not. I’ve experienced my fair share of no’s, disappointments and life’s general hiccups. What keeps me going is the possibility that tomorrow my entire life can change. Everything that I have been working toward can literally happen tomorrow which is why I never give up – PERSISTENCE. The release of my very own sneaker has to be the most rewarding and exciting thing for me right now. Providing a service is one thing but a product – man, that’s an entire new beast! Especially a product that I am able to use my talents to bring to life. Creative directing the photoshoots/video-shoots, styling the models and coming up with marketing concepts are all things I find immense joy doing. Seeing an idea that has lived RENT-FREE in my my mind for so long, come to fruition is a top tier feeling.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everyone that knows me, knows I love to have a good time so I am going to enjoy this section. Good food is always a must. Here’s a list of my favorite places to eat: Pasha, Rodney’s Jamaican Soul Food, Hide Kitchen & Cocktails or RocSouth. If you visit ATL, hookah is inevitable so we’ll most likely end up at either CRU, BLUE or Sivas. Depending on the time of the year and weather, we’d go to Piedmont Park with my dog, Novah, hit up Atlantic Station or Ponce City Market.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This may sound shallow but my shout out would have to go to my Instagram family for their continuous support of literally EVERY AND ANYTHING I do, or am apart of. The success of many of my endeavors are because of them. Having tons of followers is one thing, but having ACTIVE and ENGAGING ones, takes it to another level. Not only have they supported my brands, HannaXRozae & RippedxRozae, their presence has brought me through some of the darkest times in my life. I just love how funny they are! I’ve made some long-term connections on there that I probably wouldn’t have in person and for that I’m grateful.
