We had the good fortune of connecting with Timeesha Duncan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Timeesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business because I wanted to be in control of my success. I had an amazing job working with The Coca-Cola Company, but I wasn’t happy. I felt like my purpose was in helping other people with my talents and I felt my talents weren’t being used at their fullest capacity. I started my business while at The Coca-Cola Company, but I finally got to a point where I had to make a decision. Either I was going to continue to treat my business as a hobby and side-hustle, or I was going to take a chance on myself and see where it. would lead me. I decided to take a chance on my self. The journey has not been easy, but looking back I can definitely say it was one of the best decisions I made for myself and I have no regrets.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Personal Brand Strategist. My clients call me the Olivia Pope of Branding, because I am the fixer. I take basic businesses and turn them into blazing hot brands. I love working with people who have a love/hate relationship with social media. My superpower is taking someone who is normally shy and introverted and helping them to become KNOWN online. I have been able to impact millions with my message and have worked with thousands of entrepreneurs in helping build their brands. But my journey didn’t start off butterflies and roses. When I left The Coca-Cola Company in 2015 to pursue my business full-time, I didn’t have a solid plan. I quit with negative $125 in the bank, and a dream. Within the first month, I made $12,000 and I was elated to say the least. But I didn’t have the discipline to sustain it. So my business tanked. I struggled for a long time to really find my true niche in the industry and how to make consistent sales. But once I discovered the secret sauce to building a sustainable brand, I vowed that I would share my wisdom with anyone who would listen. I feel it is my duty to help experts share their amazing gifts and talents with the world. As a business owner, I am most proud of the opportunities I have had to work with so many amazing people in helping their dreams come to life (and monetize them at the same time).
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places in ATL are: 1. Taqueria Del Sol – best tacos in the city 2. Park – Anywhere! I love the outdoors and nature 3. Flavor Rich Food Truck – my favorite food truck, I will follow wherever they are! 4. Ponce City Market – great vibe, cool shops, different restaurants and a fun rooftop hangout 5. Top Golf – great vibe, drinks and people
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to recognize my hubby, Damian for being my number 1 cheerleader, motivator, and mentor. When I made the “crazy” decision to quit my job and pursue my business full-time, he was in full support (even though we didn’t have anything saved and no plan!) and has always been in support of everything that I do. He always motivates me when I am down, encourages and loves me unconditionally and I am forever grateful for that. I’d like to also recognize my sister, Debbie, who is a phenomenal entrepreneur and global influencer. My entrepreneur spirit, hustle and grit definitely came from her. She is such an inspiration to me, and has always supported me in everything I do. She is someone I can always count on to be there for me, no matter what. I couldn’t ask for a better big sister to follow in her footsteps. Love you both!
