We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Michaels and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Trenton New Jersey and raised in Huntsville Alabama. Both of my parents are from the Caribbean. Growing up I didn’t have access to a lot of luxuries like going to a salon to get my hair done , which was something. I’ve always wanted to do. One of my sister’s Kim knew how to do hair so she kept me in the latest hair dos while I was in high school. I had a passion for doing hair but I became a parent at the age of 15. It took me years to follow my dream of becoming a hairstylist. I believe I had to go through so many trials to get to where I am right now. Which makes me appreciate this business even more .

What should our readers know about your business?
Malone and walker is the salon I opened up in parkway place mall.. I got the name from the two pioneers in the hair industry. madam Cj walker and Annie Malone .. both of these women are my inspiration! At Malone and walker we provide full service to all hair types .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to brunch at Superhero Chefs for brunch, shopping at parkway place mall and bridge street. luxe nail bar ( Krissy- black owned ) for mani and pedi.. downtown Huntsville for drinks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my children for making me the women I am today . my son Mekhi died tragically last year and I believe that he is my guardian angel .. my daughters Miya, Jada and Jael are the reason I get up every day. My family and friends who have been there through the struggle and continue to provide emotional support.
