We had the good fortune of connecting with Tierra Gantt Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tierra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about taking a risk, I think of it as stepping out on faith . Quitting my 9-5 job and focusing on my passion and career as a cosmetologist was the biggest risk I took back in 2021. I went to school for cosmetology and it was always my passion but I was scared of depending on doing hair since sometimes it isn’t consistent. Once I took a risk and stepped out of faith to just do hair , my business and clientele progressed and evolved. It taught me to budget and be more disciplined with my finances and I’ve been successful ever since .
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is called The Wright Beauty . It comes from my last name being “Wright “, so I came up with the name with the intent of me doing my clients hair the “RIGHT” way . With my business I focus on doing hairstyles that I have fun doing, that will keep the hair healthy a protected and that Im passionate about doing . I don’t do certain hairstyles just because it will make me more money even if it’s “what’s in” . I got to where I am today because of the skill set that I’ve developed throughout my years of working in customer service. I’ve learn that you have to always remain professional and have customer service skills to keep your clients coming back and feeling comfortable. Having a business is not always easy at times since all the expenses is coming out of your pocket. But with discipline and budgeting , things will fall into place . The lessons I’ve learn from being a business owner is to not worry or stress when things get slow . Sometimes God is giving us time to rest because he knows things will get busy eventually but since we can’t see that part it makes us worry . It allowed my faith to be stronger as well trusting in God plans and timing so don’t stress when things aren’t going the way you planned with your business . It will work out. I want the world to know that when you are passionate about something and God put on your heart to do something. Do it! I never thought I’d be a business owner but God has directed and ordered my steps through this whole journey . Have faith and seek God in Everything you do .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places in Atlanta is midtown. There is colony square , Atlantic station , the high museum and lots of social spots . I like walking and site seeing as well . Colony square has outside restaurants, drink spots and the Ipic movie theater. I love miniature golf at puttshack in west midtown as well . Lately I’ve been loving the outdoor social spots . I am a huge Afro beats fan so I would take my friends to rocky steady for Afro beat and Caribbean night as well as rum punch brunch on Sundays .
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate recognition to God and my dad. Without seeking God first I wouldn’t be where I am today . When I was a little girl my daddy would always buy me mannequins every Christmas . I would watch my mom braid her friends hair and I would have my mannequin copying every hairstyle she would do . I would show my dad once I was done with a hairstyle and even though it was an ugly style he would always tell me I did a great job. My dad knew I was going to be a great hairstylist and he always supported my decision when it came to going to school and becoming a cosmetologist. Thank you to both my parents for always supporting me and thank you to my dad who always pushed me to do what I was passionate about .
