We had the good fortune of connecting with The Dye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Dye, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The career of a musician in today’s world is 95 percent about taking risks! You gamble with your financial stability., you challenge yourself every day in order to continue growing as an artist and you have to make difficult choices that jeopardize your future at all times! The reason why you’re able to live in a constant state of challenge is because you’re living entirely for your passion! You’re living for the now! You also have the conviction that your art, your craft, your work, is extraordinary and that if you keep your focus at it you’ll be leaving a mark behind!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Dye

Our alternative rock band (The Dye) was created by yours truly, Bruno Arredondo and Eudora Ellis. We met at Berklee College of Music the year of our arrival in 2009. Eudora started singing since she was a child and arrived to Berklee as a pretty tight jazz singer to study her second degree. I arrived almost completely tone deaf after playing guitar for only a couple of years. After we both graduated we moved to NYC in 2011 and 2012. We started writing songs in 2015 and performing in 2016. While we were playing our third show we were spotted by Richie Clarke. Richie is a stellar recording engineer for cinema and collaborator of Herbie Hancock and Brian Eno. Richie connected us with producer Damon Whittemore who recorded Paul McCartney and produced Bela Fleck and won the Grammy in 2018. That same year we started recording our new album Painting The New Night. This album took 4 years on the make and the first record label (Withyn Records) that listened to the album signed us for its world release. We are still hoping to go much further with this album after only 4 months of being released. We’ve learned that in today’s world every step that seems gigantic is very small and that our road too success is a constant process of becoming and arrival! We would love to share our music with new people every day. People that are ready to experience a new sound. Folks that enjoy Bowie, Pink Floyd and The Cure but that are also open to discover new music that resonates inside them the idea of dream, travel and self identity!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
NYC is a town that is always in the move and change! Brooklyn is probably more new and fun these days but we know Manhattan better! I would take my friends for dinner to Lucien in the Lower East Side for some French Moroccan food and afterwards we would hit the Village Vanguard and The Django to listen to some awesome jazz! The next day I would show them Neue Galerie, so we could enjoy together one of the finest small art collections in the world!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every single musician struggling to break through in the world today!
