We had the good fortune of connecting with The B.E. Well Naturalistas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The B.E. Well Naturalistas, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The Politically Correct Answer – The B.E. Well Company is the first black-owned, female-led CBD infused cooking oil line in the national market. It was founded by five dynamic women, The B.E. Well Naturalistas, who joined together to create hemp-based wellness products for those searching for alternative methods to traditional medicine.
Here’s the Real Deal – One of our founding members was struggling with physical ailments and depression as a result of a series of personal life tragedies. The long-lasting effects of trauma took a toll on her physical and emotional well-being, so she was prescribed antidepressants and addictive pain medication to help address her symptoms.
But something about these medications didn’t feel right. She didn’t like the way they were affecting her mind and body. After repeatedly hearing about the numerous health benefits of CBD, she researched alternative holistic products and sought ways to incorporate them into her daily life.
One evening, during a family discussion around the kitchen table, family members suggested she start her own business and incorporate CBD in the cooking oils she used at home on a daily basis. This genius idea laid the foundation for the creation of The B.E. Well Company. The family members who were sitting at that table would become the founding members of the company. The rest, as they often say, is history.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets you apart from others? We created an entire line of CBD infused cooking oils! That’s what sets us apart. We only use organic cooking oils including olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, and non-gmo grapeseed oil. No one else has done this. We’re the first!
The CBD industry has become saturated with tinctures, gummies, creams, etc. We are proud to offer something unique, a high-quality product that can be easily incorporated into your daily cooking routine.
What are you most proud/excited about?
The B.E. Well Company launched in April 2021. In less than six months, our products are now in two stores, Olive in a Bottle and Nuts ‘n Berries. This is an exciting time for us and we feel the opportunities are endless!
Recently, we were also the winners of the Woman Who Can Expo – Diamond Pitch Fest, where we had the opportunity to compete against other companies and pitch our business to a panel of judges Shark Tank style. The week leading up to the event was filled with many challenges, sleepless nights, and hectic schedules. We are proud that we pulled together, pushed beyond our comfort zone, and ultimately walked away as winners.
How did you get to where you are today? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Faith, family, and prayer. That’s how we got to where we are today and that’s how we will continue to overcome challenges that come our way.
Lessons you’ve learned along the way
We’ve learned so many lessons. Learning never ends. The minute you stop learning is the moment you stop growing. One important lesson we’ve learned is that it’s ok to try something and fail, because even when you fail, you’re still learning. You still gain knowledge and information to use for future endeavors.
What do you want the world to know about you, your brand, or your story?
The Politically Correct Answer – The B.E. Well Naturalistas believe wellness starts from the inside out! With this in mind, we seek to become a signature wellness brand that positively impacts quality of life by promoting a holistic approach to self-care.
Here’s the Real Deal – We care about you! Yes, you…the one reading this article right now! You matter to us, and it’s important that we find ways to support each other and stay in community as we navigate this thing called LIFE. We truly believe we’ve created something special, and we hope to positively impact the trajectory of health and wellness for ourselves, for our families, for your families, and for the greater community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is a historic city with a diverse population. If you ever find yourself visiting and want to have a fun and exciting time, our city won’t disappoint. Here are just a few of our favorite things to do:
Places to Eat – Poor Calvin’s, Canna Bistro, South City Kitchen
Things To Do – See a show at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, Attend one of Atlanta’s many festivals/events (Music Midtown, Dragon Con, Pride, Sweet Auburn Fest)
Places To Visit – The High Museum of Art, Piedmont Park, Illuminarium, Ponce City Market, Olive in a Bottle, The Avalon
This list doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what the city has to offer. Come and experience the magic for yourself! But please, never say “Hotlanta”. Ask any Atlanta native and we will tell you that name went out of style in the 90s. Let’s just leave it there, please and thank you!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The B.E. Well Company would not be where it is today without the guidance and steady support from Coach Swan Simpson. Coach Swan is a CBD Infusion Master, Celebrity Chef, and Business Coach. But beyond these titles, she is a compassionate person who seeks to amplify the voices of underrepresented people/businesses and address equity concerns in the cannabis industry. She is one of our biggest cheerleaders and we are forever grateful and humbled by her unwavering support. Coach Swan’s team is amazing, her businesses are amazing, and the impact she seeks to make in the world is amazing! Look her up on all social media platforms and prepare to be amazed!
