Meet Tamika Dunner & Shermika Anglin | Owners of The Statement Piece

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Dunner and Shermika Anglin of The Statement Piece, an affordable accessories brand (www.thestatementpiece.life) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika and Shermika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We have always been drawn to entrepreneurship. When we were kids, we both sold candy and always found a way to sell things to make money. We are natural born hustlers honey! We decided to start our business because we love accessories and the way they make us feel. People would always compliment us on our accessories, so that gave us the aha moment to start a movement. We brainstormed, came up with the name, The Statement Piece, a unique concept and went to work. We both utilized our individual talents from years of working in Corporate America to get our business off the ground and we’ve been moving and shaking ever since chile.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Statement Piece is an affordable accessories brand that caters to the classy and fun woman. We are a black and woman owned business. Our ideal customer understands the relationship between looking good and feeling good. Designer is cool and all, but why look like everyone else when you can stand out from the crowd without spending a lot of money? That is our value proposition to our TSP Tribe, which is what we call our customers. Our community of women are hard-working, stunning, and prioritize the important things in life: self care, happiness, and truth! Moreover, we are an inspirational brand – we want everyone who interacts with us to feel loved, beautiful, and worthy. We know who and whose we are and our faith as Christians drives our business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love to support local and black owned businesses so our itinerary will change depending on the friend, but here ya go!
Brunch: Sprig for some legit biscuits and Milk and Honey in Decatur, GA.
Sweet Treats: If we have an adventurous friend, we’re headed to Marietta to try all the great Brazilian bakeries. Camicakes is a must as well for desserts.
Lunch/Dinner: Tropics for some tasty Jamaican food. It doesn’t get more authentic than this! Negril is another good Jamaican spot. We’re fans of Martha’s Salads, Magnolia Grill, Two Urban Licks, Budi Sushi, Rosati’s Pizza, Farmed Kitchen and Bar, C&S Seafood and Oysters, and The Optimist. Next, we gotta hit the trails for a fun bike ride at Arabia Mountain Park in Lithonia, Ga.
Culture: Let’s take in some art at the High Museum. We love their rotating exhibits! We love the Beltline for people watching and Atlantic Station is the perfect place to buy cute clothes or trinkets. The Beehive is another cute place to purchase local handmade items.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tamika recently had brain surgery and is so glad to be amongst the beautiful souls we meet daily!! We give all the credit and glory to our Father: Jesus Christ. Without HIM there would be no us or vision to execute. We are thankful to our customers, our beloved TSP Tribe, who have helped us build our brand and supported us immensely. Without them, there is no business like The Statement Piece worthy of a Shoutout feature. Our Tribe is the best chile so we dedicate this shoutout to you! We love and thank y’all dearly!
