We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Leo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business was to elevate the consciousness of melanated Womb-men and Men. Goddesses in particular (women). When creating Cosmic Roots I wanted to formulate hair products that will be nourishing to the hair, scalp and soul. I was that 13 year old teenager battling with my inner being questioning is my hair good enough, should I straighten it, will I turn heads with this Afro, do I have good hair? Is my hair acceptable for this job interview. If you’re a black Woman I’m sure you can relate to at least one of these. I want my customers to love their hair and accept all the good that comes with it. Just like the plants that are here on Mother EARTH; Our hair absorbs light and has a spiritual connection to the cosmos. All the herbs that’s are used in my Vibes and frequencies Herbal Hair Oil are food grade and can be ingested as a tea to promote healthier hair and skin. If customers would like to purchase tea blends separate I can provide them with a blend. Cosmic Roots has expanded my knowledge of herbs and I plan to gain my certificate as a herbalist. I hope to inspire people to love that hair that grows out their scalp no matter the texture. Love all your kinks and curls. Peace, love and light Simone Leo
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since 2010 I’ve wanted to have my own hair product line. I’m proud that I’ve followed my heart of what inspires me to bring my business and ideas into fruition. I AM where I AM at today professionally due to my dedication and persistence. It wasn’t easy at all. I remember quitting my part time job back in 2012. I braided hair full time in my parents dining room. I was making more money doing hair than the job I had recently quit. I use to apply the hair oils that I made in my clients hair. They’d ask if it was for sale. My clients were my motivation to go hard and stop playing with my talent. As I planned my business I was so caught up in the formula and marketing so much that I was going to say Forget Cosmic Roots. If I’d have to give advice to someone I will tell them to just be authentic don’t overthink things. It’ll all come together full circle. I’d like the world to know that if it seems like everyone is doing what you want to do still do ya thing. You’re unique and people will buy your product or service as long as you are genuine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them to one of Xola’s @crystaljawn events. She is a InErgy influencer and always organizes events for the conscious collective. We always start off with honoring the ancestors through libations. Vendors have their tables set up with rare finds. If you are a vegan/plant based/raw alkaline eater you have no worries. There is always a food vendor that caters to all diets. Enjoy a hand crafted drink from @thatsloop You can Get your aura cleansed And go home with a bag a spiritual tools. There are always amazing artist as well @visionsrisen is an amazing illustrator and high vibe adornment designer. She hand makes head crowns and crystal jewelry. Another AMAZING artist is @mi.o.mona.selah she is full circle, all around raw talent. She sings, paints and makes handcrafted candles and teas. She also owns @intertwined.entertainment I can’t forget @hosidity @muvaofthedemigodz she designs and paints clothing with affirmation and positive messages. She makes custom head wraps and has a collection of Afrocentric earrings. Last but not least @__ffendi has a whole collection of Chakra and intentional candles for spiritual growth. The candles are adorned with herbs, crystals and flowers. I know I said last but not least but finally we have @dippedincoconutoil @ninaluxlabel she is a self taught fashion designer. She makes evening gowns, party dresses, causal wear and can paint and draw a mean portrait.
