We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Consistency matters most! And the reason being is, within life but especially as an Entrepreneur, you have to remain consistent for your dream to come true. There are going to be many changes, you’ll learn to adapt but the foundation is being consistent. You have to keep going, showing up even when you feel defeated or overwhelmed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career path coincides with my business. I’m a Property Manager for luxury apartments in Atlanta. In addition to being a business owner of, SG Beauty Spa. Inside of my beauty spa there are 3 suites & 3 booths for beauty professionals to rent and provide services. I’ve been in property management for 6 years, opened SG Beauty Spa slightly over 3 years ago. Some of my knowledge in managing the beauty spa was learned in my career but a lot was through research, trial & error. Being an Entrepreneur is not easy especially to the magnitude of not just having a LLC but a brick & mortar, a building. I’ve cried many nights lol, took losses, even contemplated giving up, But that inner drive, the mentality is what you need to possess. The time spent, finding the correct location, state laws, licenses, taxes, hiring your team, unfortunately firing or losing people on your team, marketing your brand etc not to mention whatever you’re handling in your personal life ; it all can overwhelm anybody! You have to believe you were made for this, you must have a passion or purpose behind it, to just keep going.
In career and business I started from the bottom, career I was only a leasing agent before being promoted 3 times, now into my managerial position. That’s consistency, perseverance, faith and strength. It sounds so clichè but it’s true – in my childhood, Grandmother would always say, “Shelby, keep your eye on the prize.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best-friend Chanel comes to visit or bestie Keira & I go out, we must stop for brunch at ‘Toast on Lenox’ and dinner we might stop at ‘Chef Rob’s, or Sea Salt’ for a quick happy hour!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor is also the owner of the shopping plaza where my Salon Suites are located. We are total opposites in age, race, upbringing yet we are an amazing team. He is a brilliant man! We respect one another & he, his Wife have been a driving force in helping me balance my emotions, and filing taxes as a first time business owner. Jim & Peggy, I’ll forever cherish our business relationship with a heavy sprinkle of friendship on top!
