We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawneé Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shawneé, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Consulting with God about EVERY thing we are faced with is a principle I’ll never waiver from because throughout all of the extremities and uncertainties of life, it offers a profound sense of peace and clarity. When we consult with God, we tap into a source of wisdom greater than ourselves, which reminds us that we are never alone, no matter what challenges or decisions we encounter.
I talk to God often. and yes…that means out loud as if the spiritual presence is right there in the room! For me, this practice strengthens my intuition and deepens the trust I have in myself. By turning to God, I feel more aligned with my purpose and the path I’m meant to follow. It’s in these moments of reflection and connection with God that I find the clarity I need to navigate life’s complexities. Leaning into this spiritual guidance empowers me to step forward confidently, knowing that I’m being supported and guided toward what’s right for me.
This principle not only fosters a stronger relationship with God but also reinforces the trust I have in my inner voice, allowing me to live with greater intention and purpose.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m in the field of marketing and digital production, though my journey started a bit differently. I initially went to Howard University to study fine arts, but halfway through my studies, I found myself drawn to film directing and producing. This shift opened my eyes to how crucial content is in the marketing, and I realized I could bridge the gap between both fields. That’s how I transitioned into the space of digital content and marketing.
Professionally, my journey has been about letting one step lead to the next. I vividly remember when I was searching for a job, trying to figure out my path. While I hadn’t done a lot in the industry yet, I knew marketing was something I was both good at and passionate about. I could’ve settled for a job outside my field, but I stayed determined to find the right role. I even gave myself a deadline to make it happen, and despite turning down multiple offers that didn’t align with my aspirations, I landed my dream job in the final week of that deadline. That was God’s timing for sure. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to keep your faith concrete and certain—it makes all the difference.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots are The Gathering Spot (a dope co-working space that is committed to uplifting the community), Brunch O’clock (my all time favorite food truck that travel and delivers right to you) and any of the various restaurants that are located downtown or midtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my mother, Pamela Owens, my grandmother, Frieda Bostick, and the book I wrote to honor them both: “50 Rules of Life That Grandma Should Have Taught You”
