We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanteiria McFarland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shanteiria, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking has been a pivotal aspect of my personal and professional growth. Initially, I hesitated to step out of my comfort zone, fearing failure and rejection. This hesitation held me back from seizing opportunities and showcasing my talents. However, the tragic loss of my brother at a young age became a profound turning point in my life. His passing reminded me of the finite nature of life and the importance of embracing every chance to unlock my full potential.

Deciding to take risks has since opened countless doors for me. By pushing past my fears, I’ve made invaluable connections and encountered opportunities that I might have otherwise missed. These experiences have not only enriched my career but also fostered personal growth and resilience. Risk-taking, therefore, isn’t just about the chance of success or failure—it’s about living fully and authentically, ensuring that when I look back, I have no regrets about the opportunities I didn’t take.

As an aspiring actress and comedian, my biggest dream is to step out of my comfort zone and start auditioning for movies and shows this year. While I have built a following on social media, I want to do more and see auditioning as a crucial step towards achieving my goals. By continuing to embrace risk, I hope to turn this dream into reality and further my journey in the entertainment industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my ability to connect with people through laughter, even on days when I don’t feel my best. No matter what challenges I’m facing personally, I can turn on the camera and bring joy to hundreds of thousands of people. This resilience is a cornerstone of my art and has driven me to push through difficult times.

One of the most exciting milestones in my career is my upcoming first-ever stand-up performance at the Laughing Skull on June 24. I’m nervous and scared, but more than anything, I’m thrilled. This journey has been far from easy, often filled with self-doubt and that nagging voice telling me it might not work out. Overcoming these challenges has required immense perseverance, learning to quiet that voice, and pushing forward regardless.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable. Hard work and faith are crucial, and it’s important to remember that everyone faces obstacles. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am just a regular person who has worked tirelessly for everything I have achieved. Many of us have untapped talents, held back by fear. I urge everyone to take risks because the worst that can happen is a “no,” and often, even that “no” is just a stepping stone to a valuable lesson.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, I’d plan a week-long itinerary that captures the essence of the city while steering clear of the more crowded and potentially risky spots. Here’s a relaxed yet fulfilling schedule:

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to thank my parents for teaching me the values of faith and hard work. Their unwavering support and belief in me have been the foundation of my journey, showing me that with dedication, everything will eventually fall into place.

I want to also thank God for giving me the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and trust that if I put in the work, He would do the rest. He has brought me connections, provided protection on my journey, and shown me that through Him, anything is possible. I am grateful for His unwavering support, for putting me in positions that made me stronger, and for not letting me give up.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my comedic inspirations: Bernie Mac, Katt Williams, Bruce Bruce, and Lavell Crawford. Their talent, resilience, and ability to bring laughter to others have profoundly influenced my career. Their work has not only inspired me but also provided a blueprint for navigating the challenges of the entertainment industry. Their impact on my life and career is immeasurable, and I am grateful for the path they’ve paved.
