We had the good fortune of connecting with Shante Roddy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shante, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success is holding tight to my belief in myself and belief in my purpose the God gave me that helped me overcome many challenges that are part of the journey. I never loss sight of my vision..one that is greater than me. It’s what kept me from not giving up no matter how difficult the situation. It’s what causes me to show up everyday and to serve.

What should our readers know about your business?
She Boss Talk is part of She Epic Media, a broadcast media company that produces live shows, podcasts, and a blog called, She Speaks Her Mind. We’re here to help women build brand equity, give them a voice, and help them get noticed and seen by the right people. The right people will need to know about their creativity, innovation, products, services, and expertise that they have. I believe what women bring to entrepreneurship can solve most of the world’s problems if given equal opportunity as some of our counterparts. They’re very few platforms that are available that focus on giving women a voice and allowing them to share their stories unapologetically. We believe in the power of their story. We’re here to help elevate their brand. their brand story and help connect them as a community and with partners that can help them take their business to the next level. Therefore their products, services, and expertise can help improve the world and solve the world’s problems. That’s why we’re here.

We use our various platforms to help women increase their brand awareness and amplify their impact. Small businesses in general, often don’t have large marketing budgets and teams and so we make access to our platform budget-friendly and easy to use. We want women to be able to build brand equity and be noticed by the right people.

I’m most proud of the fact that we’re a trusted and globally recognized brand.

It wasn’t always easy. That’s where my perseverance and understanding my “why” became important. I kept the ultimate vision at the forefront of my mind so whatever challenges came my way were just part of the process to get to where I was supposed to be.

I’ve been a business owner for 8 years. I got where I am today by following my purposes well as through hard work, and dedication. Challenges I faced included the loss of my mother in 2016, burnout, and COVID-19.

In 2019, due to a lack of self-care, I burned out. During COVID-19 I was pivoting from the business I had from 2014 into this new business and was surrounded by uncertainty. However, I was able to turn the challenges into opportunities, not just for myself but for thousands of other business owners. I was able to do that by leveraging my platform, being a resource for small businesses, and providing education, funding, tools, and other resources. That way businesses could not only keep their doors open but scale and we continue to do that today.

I took time to figure out God’s purpose for my life. I then focused my energy on the upliftment and empowerment of women. We want women to live their best and use She Boss Talk to make that happen. We want women tuning into our platforms to be inspired, empowered, and dream big. We hope they take control of their destiny and lead lives of influence, impact, and wealth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is visiting, I’m going to take them to the theater district in Downtown Cleveland to watch a show maybe a jazz show or another kind of show in the Playhouse. We would go to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame also in Downtown Cleveland. We’d attend a Cavs game, the Science Center, botanical gardens, the natural history museum, and the aquarium and watch a good movie in one of our nice theaters with seats that recline.

I’d also carry them to some of my favorite places to eat such as The Original Pancake House, Bourbon Street Barrel Room for Lousiana style cooking, Salmon Dave’s for seafood, Cheesecake Factory because they have the best cheesecakes, First Watch, Dinerbar on Clifton, Dave & Buster’s.

Besides food, we can go to a jump house so we can jump around and be silly, a 3K walk, rent bike for bike riding. I’d introduce them to Mayor Gibbs, the Director of the Urban League, the Women’s Business Center, and the director of the Black Business Chamber.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I shoutout my mom Rouqukria M. Roddy who passed in 2016 for her love, support, wisdom, mentorship and encouragement that forever carries me forward.
