We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantaia Higgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantaia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought processes that initiated my desire to own a business were driven by my love of science and beauty. I was anxious to connect them in a way that spoke to my talents, education, and interests. I knew that if I triangulated these elements not only would I be able to be someone’s answer, I would always retain the motivation to move forward. Hair salons are a staple in many communities and provides the opportunity for comradery within the female population. With the new rise of salon suites that creates an isolation. I wanted the design of my salon to be an open floor approach. I knew I wanted my salon to provide the space for stylists and clients to share ideas, discuss social issues, and ultimately laugh together.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Caviar Hair Studio was an unexpected blessing. February 2023, I opened up a double suite to start my spa business in South Fulton. I had no idea that the opportunity to open my own storefront would be coming within the next month. I received a call from my business partner, Troy, stating a space had become available at One Moreland Ave. I could not turn down the opportunity. Troy and I teamed up to open a premier hair salon with suites in the East Atlanta District. This area has made a transformation of both luxury housing and huge economic developments. To bring the Caviar vision to life, a marketing team, contractors, and interior designers were hired. Each intricate part of building a brand and/or business is interdependent. This process taught me patience and how to be selective in the hiring process. As a new business owner, you have to know that there will be some failures but those failures are lessons to be learned. Those failures also gave me the strength to keep pushing forward in spite of certain circumstances. To walk into an empty space and transform it into salon/spa that is filled with positivity, luxury, and peace is the ultimate experience I want for each client that walks through our door. Caviar Hair Studio is luxury salon that is mixed between an open floor plan and suites. We wanted to create an atmosphere where our clients can feel like family and converse with everyone. Society is so consumed with technology and individuality that it promotes isolation. We wanted to open a salon where open conversation was a part of the experience. Our stylists can learn from one another and provide an energy that defines Caviar. A place of luxury, positivity, and authentic experience of hair and beauty.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give credit to my business partner, Troy Higgins, for creating the opportunity for Caviar Hair Studio to become a reality.
