We had the good fortune of connecting with Shania Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shania, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Every brand/business has its secret sauce. Something that makes them stand out against others. The foundation on which the business is built. My secret sauce happens to be Jesus. As a creative I’ve learned the best thing you can do is partner with the ultimate creator. No one can show you how to both steward and maximize your gifts better than one who gave them to you. Making Jesus my business partner and creative director changed the trajectory of how I move in my business. I don’t have to fight to stay relevant. I don’t have to fight for clientele or orders because his spirit paves the way for me. There’s peace in knowing that what is for me will never miss me because he is my advocate.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Shania Lee and I am a fashion stylist and designer born and raised in New York now based in Atlanta . As a kid I would watch my mom and older sister get dressed and fell in love with how they would put each piece together. I believe that’s where it all started for me. I started a business selling sunglasses after my senior year of High School with no knowledge of how to run a business at all. Each year since then the Lord brought the business to new heights and revealed new layers of my gift that I had no idea existed.
One summer in college I sold enough sunglasses to buy my first sewing machine. I didn’t open the sewing machine for about a year out of fear of not being good at it. Until one day I got sick of looking at it and mustered up enough courage to pray about it. I prayed that God would give me an idea and then show me how to make that idea come to pass. He gave me a vision for a bag. This is where my staple design the paisley bum bag comes from. Styling is the most recent layer that God has added to Lee Studios and all I can say is it was a leap of faith that I’m so grateful that he’s helped me make. There’s no telling what he’s gonna do next but wherever his spirit leads I will follow.
The one thing that I want people to take away from my story is to trust Jesus. Trust that he will provide vision and provision wherever he leads you. You don’t have to have the know how. You don’t have to have the resources. You don’t have to know the right people. You only need a postured and obedient heart. He will do the rest. The hardest part is trusting that he able to use everything that he gave you for his glory. HE IS ABLE and you will never fail when you bet on him !
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so as a stylist you can’t go to a major city without hitting the best thrifts. A trip to Atlanta means nothing without stopping by little 5 points and supporting some of the city’s local shops and artists. There you’ll not only find some fire pre loved pieces but you’ll also experience the sound of Atlanta. Street musicians playing their hearts out — it reminds me of back home in Ny.
