We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean D Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean D, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Personally, I let my inner voice decide if I should keep going or shut it down. From the beginning, photography has been a relaxing pastime for me. For example, when I feel the urge to grab my camera and go on a random ‘photo walk’, I just do it. This allows me to approach my art freely without preconceived notions and get some bonus cardio exercise at the same time. I keep my eyes wide open to capture a wide range of subject matter, while relaxing at the same time. I’m really looking forward to traveling more in the future to expand my portfolio and photographic experiences abroad. Stay tuned!!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a creative based in Atlanta, I make a concerted effort to capture unique perspectives and vantage points of subject matter. I love to photograph architecture, interiors, landscapes, nature, people, and much more. I am a self taught photographer eager to continue growing within the visual art medium. Challenges I’ve faced have really come from within. My struggle is comparable to ‘writer’s block’ for authors. When this happens, I’ll put the camera down and decompress for a few days while listening to music from my extensive collection (NO streaming platforms!), exercising, etc. My best experiences in photography often take place when I capture something totally unexpected while on a photo walk. The unpredictability can be a challenge, but the end results make it worth while.

Another part of my work includes stock photography. Currently, I have 3 extensive online portfolios (Adobe, iStock, and Shutterstock), with many digital images ready to be purchased by either businesses or individual customers. It’s definitely a nice passive form of income that fluctuates often, and my collections are updated periodically. I also sell prints directly and plan on having an official website completed in the near future.

I am also a published photographer. ‘Soul Of A Photo’, a softcover collection of black & white pictures, is available online for purchase. I also have two coffee table hard cover books in production. One featuring my photography in Atlanta and the other will include a curated collection of pictures taken during my recent trip to San Francisco. Overall, it’s been a lengthy process, but I hope to have them completed by January 2025.

In my opinion, it’s one thing to have pictures on social media or a website, but framed prints, and published books can become part of a photographer’s lasting legacy. Your art and unique photographic vision is hence preserved for many years to come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Many of my close friends are actually from or quite familiar with Atlanta, so they may set the tone for their visit. Either way, it will be a great time. We’d probably start by getting a light meal before taking a drive through a few parts of Atlanta, and the rest is up to them. Options include visiting the College Football Hall of Fame and other attractions near Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown. Since this is a major sports town, we could also attend Football, Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball Games, depending on the season. Entertainment could include a concert at the City Winery or one of the music festivals that take place throughout the year. We may also visit The Flying Biscuit for breakfast, the Steamhouse Lounge or Six Feet Under for seafood, The Vortex for burgers, Taco Mac for wings and more. There are definitely many options in the ATL!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you very much. Seems like I’ve always had a camera nearby. My journey started out with ‘point and shoot’ cameras using 35mm film (Kodachrome!!), my iPhone(s), and currently a DSLR camera, which I plan to upgrade in the near future. Shoutout to my Family, who has been supportive throughout the years. I appreciate them for putting up with my camera, especially during early years. Big Shoutout to my classmates from Bloomfield High School (Connecticut). Much love to everyone at Morehouse College & Spelman College in Atlanta for everything throughout the years.

Shoutout to ‘ATL Photography’, a great Photography Group on Facebook, that features creatives from every level, including amazing drone pilots, seasoned photographers and novices. Interacting with fellow group members online or during our periodic meet ups is always a great time. I’ve also connected with other photographers on other social media platforms as well.

I’d like to give a HUGE Shoutout to anyone who purchased my photo publications, prints, and hired me for a photo shoot during the past 7 years.
I’m definitely thankful for your support.

Finally, I’d love to thank Shoutout Atlanta for contacting me for the interview. Much gratitude for allowing me to share my unique story
and journey as a photographer!!!

Stay tuned everyone….The best is only a snapshot away!
