We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruben Jolin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruben, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art is a purest expression of joy, positivity and beauty.

As an haitian, i was raised in a rich culture, i mean artistically, the gastronomy etc…theirs a lot of emotion in our culture, we are surrounded by many kind of artists, special people.

Being naturally introvert art became for me a way of learning myself by playing keyboard at my earliest age and watching cinema, those help me feel every kind of emotions, experiencing them going deep inside myself, it’s a whole journey thinking about that.

Back to 2017 when i was in school me and a group of friends created a literary circle, we keep at it, working in the field of art trying to share with people the more positive energy coming from our culture specially by doing theater, music and cultural event.

From there somehow i development my skills, the ability to understand the meaning behind an artwork, the energy, it became for me a kind of language, a way to share.

So by practicing art i hope to enriched people lives, helping them to be grateful for their breath, bringing to them calm and serenity, for me and also for my country.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I truly started working in the field of art back to 2017 when me and a group of friend created a literary circle named KONBIT’AY and that’s when i made my debut in theater and writing.

Over the years we organized various workshop and artwork in different cities across the country, sometimes it was as a props person because I am an accountant too and sometimes as an actor.

The more exciting part doing that was always the first meeting between the team, when all happen, the ideas and being able the fuse them to one and try to make it happen find all the ressources to realize it.

Everything that we wanted to realize we always knew that’s going to be a big challenge and it always been, problems came from anywhere specially past those years, it was very difficult. But we always overcome by being more creative, solide as a team should be and focus on our goal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being part of the haitian culture give you a lot of opportunities to enjoy yourself, the country has many to offer, there’s a lot of remarkable experiences that you can do, but for sure having a best friend visiting the area there’s no way to not do a culinary trip, showing them the taste of our rich gastronomy and I would be glad to make a menu for the staying days.

One thing we should do is some outdoor adventure, our mountains provide us many spot so we can go hiking listening music taking deep breath in altitude, those moment are so calm and good for meditation.
Then I would take them on a road trip to visite some of our touristic site, those journeys can be very exciting and full of unpredictable moment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God first and I want to thank the family and friends who been there when help needed, the member of the group KONBIT’AY coming from the beginning without them I probably wouldn’t be who I am today. And a special shoutout to three formidable artist Kabysh, Badio and Schebna Bazile from who I learn and I work a lot with.
