We had the good fortune of connecting with Royal Highnies and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Royal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our family has been in the textile business in Flintstone, GA for generations. Twenty years ago, we discovered this wonderful, airy Pima cotton and knew it was truly special. With so many men in our family it seemed to be a perfect choice to pursue creating a great boxer short. A local manufacturer in Dayton, TN, made a thousand pairs for us that we shared with our friends and family. It became known that if you walked through our door or it was any holiday, you were getting a pair of fabulous white boxers. Everyone loved them and convinced us to start a business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The story began as a quest to create the perfect boxer short. We viewed it as locating the perfect home for the family jewels. It needed to be a custom home, handmade, including a spacious ballroom with full seating and a sturdy front entrance so that no one slips out unexpectedly. This home should be built with the finest 400 thread count Pima cotton with virtually no shrinkage (on our part).

The next quest was to create a great name and packaging. The white boxers became “Royal Highnies”. In 2006, after much encouragement, founders and co-owners Allison Moore and LeighAnn Yates launched their trademarked brand. Our Highnies have grown to over 500 retailers in the US and abroad and our line has expanded to loungewear for the whole family.

Over the past 17 years we have steadily grown our business. When we first started Royal Highnies we were essentially working out of a closet. Our spaces have slowly grown with our business, as did our children. Our kids had always assisted us with the heavy lifting. Them moving out of our homes was the final push to get a real warehouse with a loading dock.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in a small town in northern Georgia, Flintstone, where we enjoy hiking, swimming, and bonfires.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When we first started developing our products we relied on family to test the product and give us feedback. With five boys between us, we had models, plenty of people to give critiques, and more than enough helping hands. Our boys were both our motivation and inspiration.
