We had the good fortune of connecting with Robtaevious (Rob) Madden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robtaevious (Rob), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it was something that I always wanted to do. It wasn’t until around 2016 when I started doing skits that I started to really consider things and say hey maybe I really could have my own film company and make my own films. I was already writing the skits that I was doing so I felt like I could challenge myself and write scripts also. It was until this year tho (2020) that I actually went forward with it and stopped being afraid and stopped all of the “I wonder if this will go wrong” thoughts that I was having. So I started writing, got my iPhone, and started filming.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ry Media Company is special to me because it’s my baby. Like this is mine. I named it Ry Media Company after my daughter Ryleigh and my daughter Ryan that passed. What sets us apart from others is we are a family on set. I’ve been apart of sets where it’s like okay get y’all in and get y’all out and there was no like bonding or type of relationship formed. When I bring actors to a Ry Media set, I want everybody to feel comfortable. We laugh, we bond, we eat, and most of all we work. I also make sure that the projects are released and that the actors get their proper iMDB credits. It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey. I mean this year has been crazy. With COVID still so rampant, it’s definitely been challenging to film. We had a goal of doing 2 short films a month but were unable to stick to that of course because of the pandemic so it’s like okay what can we do. We make sure we take ALL necessary precautions to protect everyone on set whether we are filming, doing a photoshoot, video shoot, anything. I’ve learned a lot from being a business owner. The biggest I’ve learned is a simple one. It’s not always gonna work out. No need to get down, depressed, or angry if something doesn’t go my way. Come up with a solution and keep pushing. I’m excited about where my company and the films we put out are going. Message to the world; get ready. Ry Media Company is on the way!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is a quick and easy answer. For food, anywhere on the Southside. The best wings I’ve had in Atlanta came from Wings On Wheat. I’d definitely take them there. For fun, anywhere downtown. There are a host of things to do there. Just depends on the vibe. This is all based on if it wasn’t a pandemic going on.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off I’d like to give a shoutout to God. Without him, I wouldn’t be here nor would I be able to do any of the things I’m doing. Secondly, shoutout to my heartbeat, my world, my everything, my daughter Ryleigh. She’s my motivation to go harder and harder every single day. Shoutout to my mom for being supermom to me. Shoutout to my pops. Shoutout to MiMi Mardis who is the business manager of the company and also the writer. She makes sure things run smoothly with the company. BIG shoutout to every single person who has watched, shared, commented, and liked our films. Shoutout to everyone who has supported and bought official merch. I appreciate y’all and love y’all with everything in me.
