We had the good fortune of connecting with Renatta Lorrayne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renatta, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I remember the exact moment that I decided to go into business for myself. I was working for a company that did not care about my mental health, stability, or family balance. I had just become a mother, and more than anything I wanted to be able to put her first. I didn’t want to miss out on those milestones in her life. I knew that I had a very special set of skills and had perfected my craft enough over the years that I could essentially go out on a whim and take ownership of my life. I booked my first client in May of 2015. I officially became an entrepreneur when my daughter was only 5 years old.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am what I believe is classified as a micro influencer. I create user generated content and sponsored content for brands all over! I have been creating content professionally just under 4 years. I am also a freelance photographer and have been for the past 8 years. I specialize in stock photography, food photography, portrait photography, corporate events and wedding photography. I became a content creator accidentally as a photographer. I started by getting hired by restaurant owners/companies to create stock photography for their storefronts and social media. I learned at my corporate job at a non profit how to create infographics and imagery that would translate well. Over time, I took a leap of faith and began marketing myself as a content creator, positioning myself in front of brands/organizations/companies in order to leverage myself and my income. It has been a journey of faith, perseverance, and constant learning. A journey I would not change for the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a nature enthusiast, I absolutely adore White Rock lake and the nature trails around the city like the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. I absolutely love taking my visiting friends and family Downtown. Downtown Dallas features so many unique gems, from shopping, the Arts District, the many awesome vintage stores/thrift shops, and even museums/restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started in this industry as a model. I had the pleasure of meeting a talented guy by the name of Derrick Brown (D Brown photos based out of Texas) who was my go to photographer at the time. I absolutely adored his work with natural light. He is definitely who inspired my photography and he actually taught me so much behind the scenes during our photo sessions. Without his guidance of how to edit in Photoshop, I may have never attempted to keep going. I also like to give credit to my daughter who birthed the fire in me to leave corporate America. My brother, husband, and family also keep me going when I battle with self doubt and I am so thankful for each of these people.
