We had the good fortune of connecting with Remondia Faye Atwater and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Remondia Faye, what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the process of overcoming. In every aspect of life, each species has to overcome some hurdle. The caterpillar must overcome the bondage of its cocoon to emerge beautiful and winged. Then it soars to new heights. I have overcome Thyroid Cancer 5 times also Lupus warrior. The process of chemotherapy and radiation inspired me to see the beauty in grace and meaning of thankfulness. Recovering fosters a closeness within your inner being creating positive thoughts that boost your immune system. Strength comes from endurance building a healthier body.
In my modeling career I was inspired by magnificent boldness of plus size women who I saw as a child. They dressed in vibrant colors unafraid of the negative standards placed on them. Society pushed plus size women in the background like seat filler but never the main attraction. Even more so for plus women of color. My mother who sew her own clothes because department stores lack the styles and trends for fashion forward big girls and statuques divas. Hence my mantra ” My size doesn’t define who I am but the size of my dreams and determination does”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud of being crowned the 2016 American Beauties Plus National Woman Queen. My being chosen as a panelist to promote plus size body acceptance on The Real World MTV Atlanta 2019 season.
As a plus model rejection is part of business. Each casting motivated me to be bolder and more confident in my looks and skill. Even if I wasn’t chosen, I left the memory of my determination, undeniable beauty in the minds of the judges.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Monday breakfast Thumbs Up and Hattie Marie for lunch both in College Park. Tuesday Atlanta has a huge thrift culture day of treasure hunting at American Thrift and Goodwill. Wednesday Civil Rights Museum and Wined Down Wednesday free concert events in Decatur. Thursday tour Tyler Perry Studio and New Black Wallstreet. Friday dinner at Juicy Crab then dancing at old school Club Ellery’s. Saturday photo taking Old Roswell Mill Park then later that night Grown Folks bar for more dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
