We had the good fortune of connecting with Nishe’e Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nishe’e, how does your business help the community?
The goal for Breathe Babyy is to lead the shift in the narrative of the Black mother. To dispel the stigma of the “crazy black mom”. My organization focuses on the mental health of the woman, first. Helping her process trauma from childhood to childbirth, provide her community and support in the journey of motherhood, and aid her as she develops positive coping tools, like breath work, to maintain her mental health in motherhood. Mentally stable mothers can show up as their best selves in all of their connecting relationships. This minimizes burnout, allows women to enjoy motherhood, manage triggers, and maintain a healthy relationship with herself. Happy, whole, healthy moms are absolutely an asset to the community and the world!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When you decide to go to school to be a therapist, they give you three choices. school counseling, marriage and family, or substance abuse. I chose Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling because as a disabled veteran with a short list of invisible disabilities I knew I could meet future patients where they were. I knew my experience would also help me navigate postpartum. It did some, but it took therapy and friends who were more seasoned mothers to help me. The entire experience has inspired me to further qualify myself to be apart of the support for this demographic, black mothers. Anything worth having requires a lot of you, so I wouldn’t suggest it’s been easy to acquire my Perinatal Mood and Anxiety credentials in Maternal Mental Health but I’m so passionate about it that I consider it a labor of love. A true passion project.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really enjoy The Works-Upper westside atl, the food options have something for every pallet. Cool art walls for the necessary selfie, in and outside seating. The place is a vibe. Also, Ponce City Market, anywhere you have options for food, shops and access to the belt line is a winner for me. The rooftop bar here is super cute and versatile, girls nite out or date nite!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my Mommy, Tamala. Becoming a mother helped me understand a few things, my mother was a woman independent of motherhood, she wasn’t crazy, as I often thought she was when I was younger and every decision she made, she made with her children in mind and she did the best she could. I hold those truths to be my light on the path I walk as a mom. To honor myself as a woman first, I’m not crazy, PPD/PPA is real and sometimes you need help to navigate it and it’s ok, if I parent with the intent to give my babies the best, then I am a good mom.
