Meet Mildred J Mills | Author, Motivational Speaker & Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mildred J Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mildred J, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is Maya Angelou’s, “I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it.” The quote means that life sometimes comes at you hard, delivering unimaginable blows. I love this quote’s power, bravery, and strength hurled at life’s knocks and the tenacity to withstand every challenge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a motivational speaker, bestselling author, and coach. My work ethic, resiliency, and truth-telling set me apart from others. I am most excited about helping corporations use diversity to navigate uncertainty in today’s ever-changing and unstable corporate climate.
I achieved professional success through the power of goal-setting, an unwavering work ethic, and a commitment to excellence in every task. This journey was not without its challenges, but I’ve learned that true success is a product of discipline, structure, and resilience to weather both warranted and unwarranted criticism.
I want the world to know that telling my story was the most challenging and healing thing I have ever done. Revealing the hurts and pains of my life has already begun to heal others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my favorite friend of more than fifty years visited me, we would spend days and hours sitting across from each other at my dining room table, reliving every precious moment we could remember. We would watch sunsets from the 26th-floor balcony while listening to the traffic below. I would prepare breakfast each morning and delicious dinners each night so we would not spend time stressing about Atlanta’s horrific traffic. We would silence our cell phones and sit poolside for lunch. But every night, we would watch and critique silly movies and eat dessert in bed.
Oddly, with life’s unending stressors and my busy life, when I have a free moment, the peace and quiet of my home is the most fun place for me. If I must choose an exciting place outside of home,I would choose the ocean or Paris or San Francisco.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Darryl, for being my biggest supporter and the wind beneath my sail. To my son, RIchard, thank you for the many ways you challenge me to be my best.
I want to give a special shoutout to my parents, Abraham & Mildred Billups, who gave me all they had, even when they could not afford to do so. Without their guidance, love, and unwavering support, I could not have risen to this level of success.
