We had the good fortune of connecting with Mila Symone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mila, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is something I recommend for everyone to do if you feel it can lead to something bigger and better. Risk taking played a major role in my career in 2020 when I thought to go to NYC all by myself for NYFW. It turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I was scared but I knew I would not regret taking that risk. All the early mornings and late nights that week working with Kim Shui paid off when I got to see all the models in designs walking on the runway.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am now was not easy. But the journey is so worth it! There are a lot of long nights and early mornings especially before shoots. And there were a lot of times I felt my business wasn’t being seen. I then decided to take on a certain look for my business. I want everyone wearing my designs to feel sexy, badass, and confident. Nothing wrong with showing a little skin.. or a lot of skin! The most important lesson I’ve learned is never stop creating, never give up. I know this is what I want and no matter what I won’t give up!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to take them to the beltline off of pounce city market! And get a fruit bowl on the walk! Also taking them to ride the scooters .. everyone needs to do that when they’re in ATL. I don’t eat meat so the famous slutty vegan and grind house burgers is one of my favorite spots for a good vegan burger !The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my mom who bought me my first ever sewing machine in 9th grade. Also all of my friends who have taken pictures or helped me prep for shoots. Last but not least Tokyo Nights for encouraging and supporting me through everything like no other!
