We had the good fortune of connecting with Mila Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mila, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted my own tumbling business but life hits so I was never ever really able to save for it properly. After I quit corporate, I told myself I will have a mobile tumbling business, go to peoples houses and teach their kids how to tumble. Upon moving back home with my parents, I was able to to save money… then COIVD hit! My mom suggested that this was the time to do the research and get ready to start my business because when the world opened back up a lot of people weren’t going to want to leave their house. I listened to my mom, bought the insurance needed, the licenses needed, etc and I started my mobile tumbling business of MB Tumbles, August 1, 2020.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Find something you enjoy and make money from it, when you do that, you will never work a day in your life. I was told that a lot growing up. I never really understood it until I got older. When you re younger, you are conditioned to go to college and there you will eventually find something that makes you happy and continue to build your craft. I was doing something I loved all my life and did not realize it until after college.

I cheered when I was younger in middle school, high school and college. I started teaching it to kids in 2015 after graduating. I realized that was my passion when I quit corporate and looked for a full time coaching job teaching kids how to flip. What sets me aside is me being mobile. I do not work out of a gym, I work out of your home and I come to you. I bring my own mats and equipment. By coming to the clients house, it’s difficult because I do not have a gym but its amazing what referring back to the basics can do for an athlete. I am most proud of the new skills my clients have gained and the opportunities that have opened up for me since starting my business. Within a year, I was able to teach a cheerleading camp during the summer. For the upcoming year, I will be helping a middle school team with their tumbling skills and I will be having two tumbling classes.

I got to where I am professionally by embracing the uncertainty and the uncomfortableness. I took the skills I learned growing up and became a mentor and teacher by perfecting them and teaching them to younger kids. This path was not easy. There was a lot of self doubt. Would my business succeed? Will I fail? Will people trust me with my knowledge and skill set? I constantly spoke to my mom and she kept reassuring me that I was going to succeed and to be confident. I was excited to start but scared because I quit my job to start my business so there was a lot riding on this decision. I overcame this doubt by feeling it, letting it pass then proceeding with the plan. What keeps me going and motivated is the life I want to live and the impact I want to make in kids lives. Kids are so much fun and seeing them improve, get stronger, and their confidence grow as a person is such a joy to watch.

Some of the lessons I have learned along the way is perseverance and never giving up! By not getting discouraged for the doors that closed on me, I was able to keep going because better opportunities were on their way. I, myself also had to learn that I do not need to accept everybody as a client either. This was my business and I knew what type of energy and people I wanted to teach. I had to realize that I am the coach, and I did not have to accept everybody. It was hard turning some people away but I am able to run my business the way I want and if a client became a problem client, I did not have to keep them as a client. This lesson was a bit difficult for me to learn. Business is good but not all business is good business and after starting my own, I have really understood what that meant.

I want the world to know that sometimes you do not need to have it all together, sometimes you need to start and know that everything will be okay. It took me 5 years after college to know what I wanted to do. I am happy I found it because now I feel like I do not work a day in my life. I love what I do and I hope to continue it for many years to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to my parents house on the lake. There would be so many fun activities to do like water skiing, tubing, and just hanging out on the lake. We would cook on the grill, have good company, play games and enjoy each others company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my mom, dad and Aunt Penny. I also want to shout out my friends who helped me during the process and pushed me to begin my life of entrepreneurship.
