We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Pratt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habits I feel that helps me succeed is prayer, faith, consistency, and dedication.
Prayer to me is a “no questions ask” kind of deal. You have to do it. No other way around it. It’s mandatory for success. Prayer helps me get through a lot of tough days and even great days. Prayer doesn’t only happen when things aren’t going right but in every aspect of life.
Faith, the size of a mustard seed. That’s it, nothing else!
Consistency is when you don’t have any motivation but your discipline takes over. Being discipline helps me stay the course and flourishes my business for continuous success.
Being dedicated in the beauty industry is a must have. You have to have the passion for what you are doing. No passion = no success.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a beauty salon named The Pretty Parlor, Beauty Bar, in Summerville, SC. We offer natural hair services, healthy hair care, and eye lashes. I’m so proud of my salon, because we opened during the pandemic back in May 2020. While other salons and businesses were shutting their doors, I opened mine! God’s Grace! I was patience and humble through the whole process. My husband and I were at the salon every evening and weekend. My husband and I did almost everything in my salon except for plumbing. Blood, sweat, and tears were definitely apart of the process. It was all worth it though. Follow our page on IG: _theprettyparlor_ and FB: The Pretty Parlor
My other business is selling hair extensions and eye lashes. Business name is Pretty Collections by Michelle. We sell hair bundles, wigs, frontals, closures, hd lace frontals, and eyelashes. We also will be selling soon beauty products, t-shirts, hats, bonnets, and more. Follow our page on IG: @_prettycollectionsbymichelle and FB: Pretty Collections by Michelle
I will also be launching very soon my own Podcast called, Perfectly Said, the Podcast. It’s a lifestyle podcast. We discuss human empowerment, relationships/marriages, families, business, life endeavors, as well as host interviews. This has been a dream for 2 years and finally its becoming reality. Be on the lookout for this. Follow my IG: _perfectly_michelle
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is that when you have your own, you can have as many employees, etc you want but when it’s all said and done and they leave, you have to keep your business going. Your name is on that door. No one else should have a say so on rather you continue the business or not, especially when they have NOTHING to do with your brand. Business runs as normal!
I’ve also learned that no matter how “nice” you are business is business. Personal feelings gets left outside the door.
A quote that I love and follow is “Stay away from negative people, they have a problem for every solution” -Albert Einstein
“She believed she could so she did”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week I would take her to Downtown Charleston, It has the best restaurants, bars, and hangout spots in all of Charleston. I’m not really a club person, my thing is restaurants. I am definitely a foodie. Downtown Charleston and Mt Pleasant has the best seafood restaurants and bars in town.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my husband Jerrell Pratt for supporting me through every aspect of my career. Jerrell believes in me more than sometimes I believe in myself. I have brought countless of ideas for business and he supports each one. Before I opened my salon Jerrell was still getting his trucking business off the ground, so I wanted to wait but he pushed me to dive right in to open my salon. Without his support, encouraging words, patience and our prayers, my business would not be where it is today. He is absolutely the best husband, and father ever! God could not have blessed me with a better husband!
