Meet Michael Wohlwend | Managing Principal, Alpine Supply Chain Solutions

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Wohlwend and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was a decision driven by both personal and professional factors that developed over the course of my career. When I started working in the supply chain industry, I gained valuable experience working for small family-owned consulting companies, which laid a solid foundation in consulting practices and client relationships. However, after the birth of my first child in January 1999, I transitioned to working for larger public software companies, where I spent the next 20 years honing my skills and expanding my expertise in various facets of the industry.
In the last 18 months of my corporate career, I took on a global role responsible for a demanding line of business. While this position was rewarding, the extensive travel led me to reassess my professional path and priorities.
In October 2017, I decided to return to my roots in supply chain consulting by founding Alpine Supply Chain Solutions. This move was driven by a desire to regain a sense of balance and control over my work life, to leverage my extensive experience in supply chain management, and to create a business that reflects my values and vision.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Alpine Supply Chain Solutions are dedicated experts with a commitment to implementing supply chain solutions that offer a measurable ROI. Our core focus lies in optimizing space, equipment, labor, and systems within the four walls of the warehouse to boost productivity, cut costs, and elevate quality. We think out of the box, harness every opportunity to enhance your operations, and push the limits of what can be achieved.
I’m extremely proud of the team we have built and the value we have delivered to our customers. We had to be super creative during the pandemic when we could not meet face to face with clients. We were and we are stronger today for it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any trip to Atlanta must include a couple of key stops. The first is an amazing restaurant that I always make time for whenever I’m in Atlanta called Nan Thai. It is an icon in Atlanta being that it is offers casual food in the heart of the city. It’s close to Georgia Tech which has great energy! Any trip to Atlanta should also include an Atlanta Braves game if possible! During the winter months, taking a walk around the CNN Center and seeing the Atlanta Falcons or the Atlanta Hawks play are fun. I would also suggest a few more nights to dine around the Windy Hill area. The Blue Ridge Grill is always a favorite. And, running along the Chattahoochee River is also a lot of fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to give a heartfelt shoutout to my wife, Julia, who has been my unwavering support throughout my journey. Her insight and encouragement played a pivotal role in my decision to step away from the global corporate grind to focus on our family and led me to launch Alpine Supply Chain Solutions. Her constant presence, support, and understanding have been instrumental during numerous life changes, including the decision to start my own company.
Additionally, I would like to recognize the Warehouse Education Research Council (WERC). Serving on the WERC board allowed me to gain a deep appreciation for the warehouse industry and to build a phenomenal network of professionals. This experience and network have been invaluable in the creation and growth of Alpine Supply Chain Solutions. The insights and connections I gained through WERC have significantly contributed to my professional development and the success of my business.
