Meet Michael Weekes | Business Consultant & Income Tax Professional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Weekes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For some time before staring my own business, I worked in a fully commissioned capacity. I had also operated a business in a partnership in a different industry before so making the decision to break out on my own was not a difficult one. I have always been and independent thinker and self-starter, so having autonomy over my time and the idea of getting out what I put in were always important to me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Michael T. Weekes & Assoc. LLC is a Business Consulting and Income Tax Preparation business. having worked in retail banking, mortgage banking and real estate, I am able to offer my clients advice on a wide range of topics not limited to their tax needs. My partnerships with my clients who specialize in my prior areas of experience provide them with the confidence that not only their client’s needs but theirs are also met. In the aftermath of the 2008/09 housing market crash, I relinquished a career in the mortgage industry and set my sights on building this business. What I have been able to do, is to assist and guide individuals who have set out to establish businesses of their own. In many cases these individuals ultimately have the desire to purchase a home. Financing a mortgage for a self-employed individual is more complicated than doing so for a w2 employee. My relationship with my clients goes beyond helping to start their business or completing a tax return. It’s not transactional, it’s about being accessible, making them comfortable and confident about things that might have otherwise been bothersome.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An evening at Stone Mountain for a walk up the mountain and the Laser show later would definitely on the agenda. A day trip in the city to the Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Park, World of Coca Cola and the MLK Jr. National Historical Park.
A visit to Mercedes Benz Stadium and a ride up to Cobb County to the Battery…eat at the Yard House or Punch Bowl Social Atlanta, as a matter of fact eating at any one of the restaurants would be a treat.
A day rambling in Piedmont Park and then off to the Botanical Garden
A ride up to Athens to visit UGA and a later dinner at Bottles & Bones in Suwannee
A day trip down to Savannah, venture out to Tybee Island for the best grouper sandwich at A-J’s Dockside,
Finding a good place to eat in Metro Atlanta is not a problem.
Breakfast: Breakfast at Barney’s, Flying Biscuit
Lunch/Dinner: Fox Bros. BBQ, South city Kitchen, Two Urban Licks, Slutty Vegan (Lunch),
Drinks: Establishment Bar & Grill, “Best Old Fashioned”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest support has come from family and friends. From my early days growing up in Barbados, later New York and now Atlanta the appreciation and support that I received from family has always made me feel that I was capable of achieving. Even at times when I might not have seen myself as worthy, family and friends always seem to see me as one whose opinion was warranted. One friend even coined the title “The Answer Man!” I assumed a sense of responsibility that extended beyond family and friends but to community. I became motivated not only to have answers for those close to me, but to broaden the scope of my influence and outreach to others. I have done this both personally, and professionally.
