We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Jourdan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I went to therapy. Having a kid brings up all those things you never realized were an issue growing up. In order for me to the best parent I could be, I had to work on my own sh**. How am I supposed to help him work through all these big emotions if I don’t even know how to help myself through them? I learned a lot about myself. That has translated into me being a more present, understanding & attentive mother.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was 19, I was tired of hourly jobs & being a broke college kid. My mom offered to train me doing her job. I was offered an opportunity to prove myself with a local real estate attorney. After my son was born, I was able to help my mom start a real estate title company & worked as her title examiner & administrative assistant. Once the residential real estate industry slowed, I stepped into the energy sector & have loved it! I think what sets me apart is tenacity. I’ve always been very focused. I like making money. My goal is to do such an amazing job I’m irreplaceable & worth every penny I’m paid. I wouldn’t say it was easy getting to where I am today. I had to learn a lot, mature even more. However, I’ve been blessed with people who are willing to teach me & point me towards success. Maturity has been my biggest lesson. I do the best job I can & stay away from other people’s problems. Involving yourself in other people’s lives is a fast ticket to being someone’s scapegoat. I don’t mess with other people’s money & they don’t mess with mine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things to do is going to concerts at State Farm Arena. We recently saw Childish Gambino & it’s a concert I would go to on repeat. The Battery is a nice option for anyone. There’s lots to do with the Silverpoint Cinema serving some pretty good bites with a movie. Botica is a must-have in Atlanta. My Grandma is Mexican; their food is almost as good as hers! St. Julep would my rooftop bar of choice. It’s smaller with friendly bartenders , & the bottom is a hotel in case you drink too much lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s cliché but my mom. I would not be where I am in either of my jobs without her. She trained me to be a title agent & helped me get put on an amazing team with an even better boss. For my embroidery, she bought me my machine after my son was born. She had learned that new mothers who learn a new hobby are less likely to have PPD.
