We had the good fortune of connecting with MarXus Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MarXus, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I fully support the phrase ‘No Risk, No Reward’! Without taking some of the risk I have, I probably wouldn’t have been in rooms I have been in working with people I’ve always studied and admired.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
R&B is my forever love. When I write, I write with intention. I’m super excited about my newest single ‘Crash Out’ being released this summer.
There were a few factors that got me to where I am professionally but I think learning to stay true to myself and ignore the doubters. It wasn’t always easy but it was definitely worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me in Baltimore for a week, I’d give them the full experience — music, good food, movement, and good vibes. We’d kick it off with seafood down the Harbor and live R&B or jazz at Sounds at Keystone Korner. I’d take them album digging at The Sound Garden (my favorite place as a kid), and probably even take them into the studio to see how I create my magic.

Of course, we’d hit open mic at ThrowSocial DC (because I live for it!), and dance the night away at spots like Euphoria. We’d brunch at Miss Shirley’s, grab açaí bowls at Pure Raw, and balance it all with workouts on the waterfront or a chill day at Patterson Park. I love mixing fun with wellness.

We’d explore the art scene in Station North, do a little shopping, and end the week with music — whether that’s catching a live show, dancing, or just singing in my home studio. To me, Baltimore is full of soul, and I’d want them to leave feeling all of it — the rhythm, the flavor, and the heart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to everyone that has been part of my journey. I thank you all for the support and push when I started to give up on myself.
