We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Why not do something you love. I’m so creative, I love working for myself, and making others happy, so why not make it into a career!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So my business is setting up someone’s vision for their event whether it is a baby shower, wedding, birthday party, girls night. I get to decorate also help them coordinate where to get certain items or certain vendors they could use. I also dabble in building my own props and doing some interior designing. It all started with my own baby showers and having to do everything by myself and from there are use my regular 9-to-5 job to help create and fund my dream of being self employed. I think what sets me apart from other businesses in my field is I started out so young being a single mother as well, all at the same time. Which is most exciting, also most challenging, but I overcome it everyday. I think the most exciting part and what I want others to know, I’m able to expand and knowing that there is no limit to what I can do for myself and others. I am most grateful for those that have supported me over the years pushing me to my limit and knowing that I can do anything for them, and that they trust me to do just that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I don’t go out much, especially on the weekends because those are my busy days. But first things first, let’s eat at Papi’s cuisine in Baltimore. I love their lamb chops. You have have to have Maryland crabs from Blue Pointe! We could take a drive to Ocean City to see the beach, or drive to DC where there’s endless culture diversity and all of the different museums.. We can hit Top Golf and the National Harbor.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m shouting out Stephanie from Social Lock, we met online with our boyfriends playing professional basketball overseas and met in a support group, I couldn’t be more grateful for her!

My mother, Jatique is my biggest supporter/business partner. From baby sitting, investments, and to being my assistant in setting up events. I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
