We had the good fortune of connecting with Lamia Rady and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lamia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Fashion designer meets visual artist, Lamia Rady is a multidisciplinary self-taught fashion designer born and raised in Cairo, Egypt.

growing up she was always interested in fashion and taught her self how to sew at the age of 13. Growing up she struggled with an autoimmune disease called crohn’s.

Now she primarily derives her inspiration from her early experiences and relationship to her personal body tied with the aesthetics of the minimalist movement.

Her collections aim to highlight one’s relationship to their personal body and how they experience it through her designs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Lamia Rady, the designer behind the brand has gone through a series of surgeries brought upon her by an autoimmune disease. From the age of 7 she understood that in order to repair her body, a process of deconstruction through surgery; of breaking and healing, must first occur. Thus, in her designs, she continuously explores this very process of deconstruction. She utilizes unconventional cutouts, shapes, exaggerated oversized silhouettes, and asymmetric outlines to highlight and exaggerate qualities of the human form. Rady aims is to continue striving for boundless experimentation of shape, cut, texture in relation to her very body as well as others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in Egypt. So i’d say definitely day 1 we’d visit the pyramids, khan el khalili and have dinner by the nile. For the weekend we’d travel to gouna (hurgada)and here is what we’ll do: take a boat to dive with dolphins, swim with horses in the sea and take bike rides during sunset . We would then go to nuweiba in Sina go hiking/work climbing and spend the last day chilling at Castle Zaman (castle on the hill over viewing the sea).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My sister. She’s the closest person to my heart. She was my main supporter growing up and she still is till this day. I’ve always looked up to her and she’s the one that has inspired me to get into fashion and peruse a creative career.
